This was a recent acquisition that I was working with tonight. It has some condition issues, and I wasn't entirely happy with the images I got, but heck, it twists round and round a bunch, and is a bigger marble...at 0.77"....those condition issues are fine for now. John

I agree with you, Ric. I do like Masters...perhaps overall all the others that I like: Master is the maker for me. John

From this view, I don't see mica. The color doesn't seem right for a green one, and the inclusions seem like it might be unmelted stuff, or sand, or brick or other material. I'm not seeing a pontil either, but not seeing one doesn't mean much. It could be a small melon ball with bubbles, I suppose, I'm just not sure. John

I might try for a few more photos. The white is UV reactive, and the colors show well in these photos. My guess was Cairo, the butt seems Cairo, plus the bias to less color on the back side. Might be a day or two, but I will get some up. John

Huge, in a way, one of my favorites. 0.79" Taking votes on this. Its UV reactive too! Much of the back is not shown, being largely white. I have my guesses. Sorry about the two similar views. John

Steph has it, I believe!

Good eye. I would wonder about that. It has that blurriness of the white, that moves differently in marbles that have lost their original surface. I find polished marbles to have a slippery feel...and they have a tendency to get away from one's grip more easily than an original surface marble. One sure way to find out is some higher magnification...like 30x or better. Where there was a glass loss, or deeper flea, the remainder of the imperfection sometimes can show as smooth, but broader, and bowl-like appearance that is almost impossible to describe, and is smooth(er) but doesn't look like an as-made melt-depression, or very small contracted dimples. These show up on lots of marbles, and are natural when the glass cools, but don't look the same on a polished marble. Let us know what you find! John

Ok Guys And Gals ... What Do I Have Here ?
J_Ding replied to shotgun's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Doug. Welcome to marble collecting. Take a deep breath and slow down a bit. ID's are best like your first post, with one (ideally) or two mibs. Show several views and roll them around. You've got lots going on in post #5...and some potentially interesting things. A flame for example in the first photo first row right in post #5; and corks, and patches. Some look older, some look newer, can't be sure. Give several views, and maybe only group things you think are similar by construction or style of glass. You seem anxious to figure it out all at once...and I can assure you, marbles resist easy comprehension. If the professionals here start working on these pictures, you will be so lost in ID's, and worse possible IDs that you might give up right when you get started. Good luck. PS...put these in the Marble Identification thread. John -
Great. Glad you like it. We both agreed we've never seen one like that!

Very much so! I hoard Superiors! Dig the lake too!

Thanks! Early or later...doesn't matter...just so I know. John

You know, I did think the seams were Akro-ish. I have never intentionally bought known dug marbles...but I know I run into them from time to time.

0.62" And a bit off the main roads. I like them a bit off. I've been going Vitro on this one, based on the glass and horsehair. Still, not sure...sometimes I go off in other directions. Thanks! John

At 0.64", looks MK cub scout-ish, but the blue is transparent all the way through. Please take me to school on this one! Thanks! John

I really am wondering too. The white is not the same, the green and reddish is different too, and the flow is different...all things I know, can vary quite a bit. We'll see what others say.

Sorry if I missed this...I took the thread titles at face value! Sure you still want to see other examples? I do think there would be value to adding more pictures. For me, the more I see, and the more often I see different examples, the better. I think of newcomers (and even more experienced collectors)...and having a good place to go to see some good pictures and some good ID'd material I think could only help the hobby.

The larger version is nice. So, do we think that the marble #6 is the same as the group on the top left?
-
That's what we thought. You wouldn't believe what she got it for! 2$. I've not quite seen one constructed like that.
