    Vintage? Ancient is even better:
  3. Great idea - I like best the small houses and towers.

    Moving ....

Degrees Centigrade or Fahrenheit? Here we currently are close to the values (°C) but will not get 20 degrees on friday (neither °C nor °F) Oh, I think I need to bring over some bread and salt whenever I'm near.
  5. I would consider it 'yes'. Something in the direction of "breathtaking".
  6. Need some less violent stuff? My mouth gets dry ... ("Mir bleibt die Spucke weg").
  7. It was a hard job and I am impressed myself how things worked out just without the lack of precision. Still there are two pics I would like to share now: The completed assembly in a housing to do a verification. And it really works with some drawbacks: http://imgur.com/FXXQEeW And here is a close up on how the lack of precision interferes with the housing construction. The vertical guide must be exactly there for the 16mm marbles. For the 22mm ones there is a re-arrangement possible but this is out of scope here. http://imgur.com/F0oM2dX Hope you enjoy the story a little bit. For those who like to try it themselves: The helical core could be used to lift ping pong balls as it is. There precision is less stringent and the vertical guidance gives more room to the helix. Okay, the housing then needs a reconstruction to fit the larger ping-pongs.
  8. A few weeks ago I tried to make a helix-type lift for a next marble run. The idea is pretty simple and the base material available at a hardware store (okay, things in Germany are metric not inches). http://imgur.com/iM7AIXE Not shown are some screws and spacers. Here we have a close up of the ends: http://imgur.com/O7T9Di9 The biggest issue for me is winding the spiral since I have no workshop, no dedicated machines. So I took household material (a rolling pin) to wrap the aluminium strip around. The outcome assembled together still looks reasonable. http://imgur.com/xb2BSrT Unfortunately the precision is less than I hoped. The spiral I expected to get not more out of shape than 2mm. Actually I got 3mm and so the construction will not fit to 16mm marbles. 22mm will work better but are not intended here . Oh I notice that I am lacking some pictures of the current assembly with the housing. I will post them later. Anyway for the next 16mm-run this lift is deprecated.
  9. skoronesa - Thanks for your answers. Hm, a marble shooter ... that gives just an idea to me ...
  10. Really fine stuff, I like the new pictures. Okay, the traces are not so sharp as I had in my imagination. As you write the sand is getting dry and you think of wettening it before playing I remember the issue with wood being wet all the time: mildew and decay. So I think your wooden table construction might need some protection against the moisture creeping into the wood. Our wooden sandbox clearly shows this issue even with well treated and painted parts - okay it sits outside in the garden what makes things worse. Using concrete instead has the disadvantage of the fixed arrangement. You can not just change the setup of the playground to another count and position of holes and so on. Or do you implement these arrangements in the slab you need to install as your cellar's floor? This wooden construction your son handles in one of the pics: Is this something like a catapult to shoot out the marbles?
  11. kbobam seems to mean 🍴 (sorry, I failed finding the spoon in the drawer)
  12. I am curious how an Inuktitut scrabble would look like. As far as I know the japanese Hiragana notation (I avoid using alphabet) is such a syllabic script. There are some more it seems: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana Anyhow I just learned something new every day-ish
  13. Tell me, is this the secret hymn of a marble collector?
  14. I would assume "yes", since the glas surface is much smoother than pebbles used for "stone wash". So the cloth gets less mechanical stress.
  15. Sorry, I can not agree to "mom/dad" being the first word of everyone. Since every child is different things differ a little bit but the most important *first* word I know from mine is "cooky"! "Mom" comes later ...
