  1. Hi RockGardenPlants and Steph, I just thought I'd share a marble that just feels similar to your marble. My marble is .60" and has that same seaweed brown "ribbon", but more sparse. The white is like a wispy slightly translucent base that you can see into when sitting on a phone light. In black light I see fluorescent orange tracing the ribbon and it also seems to go into the marble like threads of a fungus. I really didn't pay much attention to this marble that I found in a huge jar. I put it on the side because it was in pretty mint condition. Now as I look at it in detail, it is quite beautiful. Anyway, not sure if it is the same type of marble, but thanks for making me investigate more. It reminds me of an akro moonie that I just got (another marble that I just so happened to find soon after seeing a post of Steph's about these). Except no orange glow aside from the strands. Sorry about the poor quality of the pics. --Gail
  2. Thanks! I guess these are so common, nobody sells them. I thought they looked different because of the white "stripe" between the blue ribbon.
  3. Hi Everyone, Just posted twice and I'm learning a lot. Here's my 3rd post. I've searched for a similar picture of a few marbles that I have (pics attached) on several sites and books. I got these from someone in Hawaii. I was thinking, since I can't find pictures that match these, perhaps these are not Marble King rainbows after all. Maybe they are from Japan or China since a lot of things were imported from those countries being that Hawaii is in close proximity. (They remind me of China blue dinnerware.) Just wondering what these actually are. If anyone could help, it would be appreciated. Whatever they are, they stand out in my tray of marbles to be identified because of the contrast between the white and blue. The first two pics show the ribbon and the patch, the second two pictures attempt to show what might be the seams, but I don't think they are visible. They are about 5/8" and have probably been played with in the late 60's or early 70's. Thanks!
  4. Aww, too bad. Thanks. Your info has helped me a lot. I have a tray of mibs that has been laying around, from the day I into marble collecting, that I have always wanted to categorize. I have now whittled down the task by a quarter. Thanks again!
  5. Happy Birthday!  (I'm just a newbie perusing the site and noticed that it was your birthday.)  May you enjoy an awesome marble discovery today.--Gail

  6. Wow, I didn’t realize that Alley was that short-lived. Thanks for the info. Also wondering if those black tips and lines are blue oxblood or just bluish black glass.
  7. I think you are right. I just saw one that looked like these on eBay. Thanks. Are these are newer since they don't have those busy swirls and flames?
  8. They looked too shiny to be the older ones so my first guess was the Champion brand since they have produced marbles into the 21st century (?). Thanks for your help!
  9. Hi Everyone, I need some help again. Now that I have time to actually try to identify some of the marbles that I just randomly picked up here and there... Here are some that I've been always wondering about. I don't really see them anywhere, so I'm suspecting that they aren't all that collectible, but it would be nice to finally know what they are. I have rotated them right to left, clockwise, by about a quarter turn for each pic. The top two are about 0.66" and the last three are about 0.61". I'm guessing sizes by comparing them to other marbles I have since my calibrator is in a moving box. I took pictures of these as a set because the swirl thicknesses and patterns looked similar. The first one has a slightly tinted white base, and, it seems that I can see like a grain pattern of swirling white glass. The orange swirls seem translucent. I notice that there are tannish swirls that don't necessarily follow parallel to the orange swirls. The second one is more of a pure white, though when I compare it to other marbles that have an opaque white base, this one is different; almost as if it has a clear base with opaque white mixed in. The tips of the purplish brown swirls (which look translucent) are bluish black. There are separate swirl lines of bluish black here and there, as well. The third marble has the same bluish black tips at the end of the brown swirls like the second marble. The bluish black seems to swirl here and there as well. The base seems a little less opaque. The last two are not as interesting--basically translucent swirls, one orange and the other green. I was thinking maybe Champions or Alleys. I did see similar sparsely swirled marbles on eBay occasionally labeled as Heatons. Thanks for any help that you can offer.
  10. Hi, Thanks for the compliment! I'm looking forward to learning tons from everyone in the community!
  11. Thanks! (I was thinking that the blue one looked like the bicentennial one that I saw on another marble website.)
  12. Thanks for the info! That explains my confusion between the two. (Sorry for the late comment-- didn't check off the "notify me of replies" box.)
  13. Hi Steph, Thanks! Sorry that I didn't respond. I guess there is a button that I didn't set for notifications. Happy New Year and best wishes for 2020! Thanks for all you do for marble collecting!
  14. Hi Everyone, I apologize for any mistakes and irritations that I may cause, in advance. I'm just getting into sorting and identifying the marbles that I keep purchasing (mainly because I liked how they looked). The answer to my question is probably obvious to everyone, but here it goes . . . Are these Champions? They have a lot of dings on them like they've been banging around in a bag too long. I've read somewhere that Jabos can be fragile, too, so that might be my second guess. I just love that they are so full of swirls. Thanks for your help! I'm attaching 4 pictures of different views of a few. I've quarter-turned them front to back. They are about 0.61" to 0.62". Thank you!
  15. The last one reminds me of a vitro in color and the curve of the seam also reminds me of the curves on a helmet. Just sharing my 0.1 level opinion. Thanks for letting me chime in.
  16. Hi Everyone, First of all, I'd like to thank all of you in advance for allowing me to read your posts to learn about marbles. Just wanted to share a little about me, since there was a spot on the menu to do so. I got started in January 2019 after doing a symbolic purge to get ready for a new phase in life--retirement. I came across a bag of marbles that I had, nothing great, mainly cat-eyes that were probably made in Japan. But, I'm like a raccoon, drawn to things that are shiny. I put them in a jar and then I became hooked. I started to look around on eBay, where I still get most of my marbles since vintage marble sales are pretty bleak where I live. Anyway, I swear that I still buy according to how something looks and not how collectible it is. I do want to kick up my knowledge level a few notches--actually a ton of notches and go beyond just being able to identify the common Akro corkscrews and Peltier rainbos. So that's my story. If I sound ignorant about something I'm hoping someone will enlighten me. Thanks for reading! Happy Thanksgiving!
