Just had to say how nice of your wife to think of you when she saw those marbles! Since it doesn't have a name, maybe you can name it after her! ๐

Back at yah! ๐

I'm realizing that all the marbles that I love and get so excited about are just run-of-the-mill marbles. LOL!

When I think about what you said recently about the amount of swirl being dependent on how long the molten glob was able to mix before it was sheared, it makes sense that this might be a product of a leftover stream of glass that made that fine thread of UV zig-zag everywhere in the marble. It is definitely a different swirl from the larger ribbon. Thanks for taking the time to examine my marble. I certainly got way more than 25 cents worth of information. As for the marble, it is a keeper for me. Though I would love to have an awesome looking marble that is very valuable, I am, believe it or not, very happy with the unusual ones that I find along the way. I'll just leave it at being a cool looking, WV swirl. Would be fun to see if anyone else has something similar, though. Thanks!

Sorry, Didn't realize that I didn't turn it. I was having difficulty focusing. Not enough lighting. Maybe I need to do this tomorrow in front of a window.

I probably shouldn't have included the green marble. I just thought that is was of the same size, It had similar looking ribbons, and it had the same glow. Being that it came from the same jar, I thought perhaps this person maybe had a bag of marbles of the same brand and these two might have been from that same bag. Maybe grasping at straws.

Exactly. It is sooooo difficult to get a good photo of the UV stuff, for me at least. I tried to describe it as best I could, but probably still too subjective. I think it is like the Christensen dark purple slags. It is so dark that you can't tell that it is purple. Not sure if that helps.

Here is another pic that I tried to edit to bring out the lightning like threads. Sorry about the over-exposure and the purplish black light.
-
Iโm pretty sure you were looking at a reflection. But, I wish I could take a good picture of it. When I look at the thin glowing threads running within the marble I feel like Iโm an actor in a sci-fi movie! Electrifying!LOL!

The base is entirely purple and translucent. It's really dark, but I can see into the middle as far as the ribbons will allow. It's quite amazing to see lit up in real life.
-
It is actually a purple clear base with white ribbon. The base looks black in just natural light. But in strong light you can see the purple color. There is a different strand of ribbon (more thread like) that glows. The second additional marble is green with white ribbon that glows green.

Thanks. Thatโs what I thought. I saw just a date and month but later I noticed posts that I thought were labeled 2017. Maybe the two were distantly related just in name.

Also, wondering if this next marble is the same brand. Same size. Green translucent base with swirls made of these threads and thinner ribbons that glow green.

Hi Everyone, Finding time to really look at my marbles in jars and found one that caught my eye. It looks black and while in ordinary light. When shining a light through it I can see a dark purple transparent base with white ribbon swirling throughout. Under black light on it, it looks really amazing--thin green glowing threads zig-zagging everywhere. It makes me feel like I'm looking at lightning within the marble or something out of Frankenstein's lab. Does anyone know what this is? The measurement is .59". Thanks for your help.

I just posted on this and am sorry for bringing up news from the past unintentionally. Is there a way to find out what year a post was made? Thanks!

Oh my! I just found his marble site about a month or two ago and even watched a YouTube video that "Joe Marbles" put out. I got a lot out of his resources. I'm sure the marble collecting community is feeling his loss. Sending my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. I didn't know him personally, but I can see that he was a passionate person from the way he shared his knowledge with all.

Everyone, Stay safe and healthy!

Just saw the date on this thread, but I figured I'd add to it anyway . . . Being that I am from Hawaii . . . (sorry to gross out anyone) . . . just finished my spam and rice! Yum! Comfort food for hunkering down indoors as we do some social distancing. . . .

So that's what determines the patterns! I can see it now! Thanks for sharing.

Does anyone do reconditioning now?

Thanks for the info. -
Here's what is going through my novice brain--I was thinking that Peltier Rainbos look like globs of icing being forced through a pastry tube that has a bit of the previous color stuck to the inside surface of the bag. When it comes out, you have the main colored icing with a thin ribbon of the other color showing. Sorry. I know it sounds lame. Just thinking out loud.

Actually it sort of make sense to me that the marble machine just makes the glob round and the magic happens before it shoots down the screws. Soon after it is cut there's not much time for anything much to happen, I would imagine, since it is already starting to harden. After watching the machine used by Jabo on a couple of YouTube videos, it seems that the patterns form probably between the point of the pour and the mixing of colored glass and chemicals, evolving until the point at which it is sheared. So interesting. My head is spinning like a marble in a machine.

I just watched Joe Marbles' "How to Make a Marble" on YouTube. It's starting to make more sense. Now my question is how did they get the Peltier Rainbo ribbon to just swirl around the equator? Sorry, this is probably very obvious to the seasoned collector, but I'm a bit marble production challenged.
