Here is a nice ¾” Akro Agate “Cornelian”, a company name (not Carnelian). The first set of images shows a backlit image on the left, both images are under a fill flash. They cannot all be backlit with this effect. This one sure looks like a backlit slag. In hand, under normal light, Cornelian’s appear to be opaque. As you can see this one has a nice “tail”. I still believe that is a “machine made” and not a transitional. Slag’s that are machine made will show the same “tails” sometimes. These marbles show up in a darker red/maroon color but I believe that they were all dug or “experimental”. In the early days of collecting machine-mades folks called the darker ones “bricks”. No Oxblood is involved. There is a collectors name for this darker color but it escapes me--- (help me out here mulberry?). I would not consider Cornelians to be common. The white on these is not usually as robust as the one I show. When I backlight this one with torchlight it has an out of focus “fisheye” effect just like a “Flintie”---hmmm I wonder---was the same glass recipe used?? Just another great reason to back-lite your marbles—you just never know. Marble—On!!!

I looked at these all pretty hard. I posted some images below of the ones that interest me. More opinions are welcomed and needed. Image one is probably A Master Made “cloudy” Image two looks like a Vacor marble Image three is very nice, I have seen them ID’d as Master Made, I am not so sure. May be an Imperial—a nice one. Image four looks like it may have some aventurine in it, jury is out on this one. Image five, is this image under black light? Jury is out. Image six, I circled an area that I would like to see another image of. A melt spot perhaps? It also looks like it has a metallic streak at the top of the window. The ones that I do not mention here are all Imperial imho. Thanks, this was fun. Back to the couch for me(sick like a dog—no covid) Marble—On!!

This one is an Imperial.

These type are the first that I ever purchase as a “marble collector”, thought that they might be “guineas’” lol. They set me on a road of research that has not ended. In my own defense, they were covered in detritus in an old chicken coop at an untagged estate sale. Lesson learned. Marble—On!!

I agree with Al, most are "Imperials". Often mis-Identified as "Master Marbles" I circled a few from the last image that deserve another look. Give us a shot with both sides including the cut-off marks Marble--On!!

Peewee Pics Anyone? And a Little Info Would be Great!
akroorka replied to Marbleized's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
They sure did, but yours is a very--very nice one, all Master peewees are rare imho. The rest are what I would consider as Akro with the exception of the yellow and white one which may be a Pelt. Regardless of my ID on these, they deserve a bump up. As always, I just call them like I see them and all opinions otherwise are welcomed. Great marbles! Marble--On!! -
From what I see, you did well---Lets see some more!! Marble--On!!

My Sunday best. This is a Master Made “coral” colored marble. I’ll bet that I held this one and looked at it 25 times in the last two weeks. I did not do it justice---just my best attempt. In hand it is a coral color. Unreal—I love the coral colored marbles—all makes. If you suffer from the “ THE WINTER BLUES”, start collecting these, Swarovski annual ornaments. They are in my windows year round. This time of year they throw prisms from one end of the house to the other. They make me very happy. Try your best to be happy as well.

Peewee Pics Anyone? And a Little Info Would be Great!

I believe that the first one is a nice little Master Made Marble---a very nice one at that. Marble--On!!! -
The Lilly Planters and the Lilly vases are the two most common finds in my world. They do show up with some weird color combos and base glass though. Here is an example of one of the repo Lily vases. It just could be an earlier version as Akro purchased these molds from another company (Westite). It has a big clunky base to it. I appears to be Black amethyst but it is actually amber when backlit. Funny thing, the two akros on either side both have backwards letters as you described. Here I go, turning over Akroware the rest of the day. (they all need dusting anyway)

I agree, transitional. I have come across these from time to time and they were always a puzzler for me. Nice and round, smooth, no pontils, just this color combo. Marble--On!!

X3 I love the red slags. Marble--On!!

I love it. They are bigger than I imagined them. A great find, love the color.

Good eye William. One out of four had the backwards thing going on in my house. I had never noticed it before either. A new thing to search for--Thanks!!

Cool Beans Tommy, one of Masters best imho. Marble--On!!

What? A black slag? No, it is a purple slag that eats up light like no other that I have. It cannot be backlit, it refuses any penetration of light. I believe it to be a hand-gathered machine made. It has a nice tail. Who made it? I would just be guessing. Marble—On!!!

This is just an excellent post Spara50. I truly appreciate it. You have unlocked a few mysteries for me. I have the proof , that I need at least, to reassign the” Akro Crow” marbles that any hard core Akro collector is familiar with. “Akro Crow” marbles have been sold for years. As far as I know, they were all dug. The dark part of these marbles, in some cases, does resemble a “Crow”, at least in some of the better examples. The ones that I display were more affordable. The dark part is actually the interior of the marble, not so dark, just darker than the rest, the interior. Do not get me wrong, they are cool marbles and I purchased these just for one reason, to backlight them. I am now convinced, as I always believed, that they are “Brown Flinties” that just did not make the mark for the manufacturer (Akro Agate). I back lit them and found one that did indeed display an out of focus opalescent “fisheye”. The other two that I have (they can be quite expensive) are too thick/opaque to shine any light through but they do light up with opalescence at the edges. Thanks to Chad, for the link that provides me with this great silver background. (I really love this stuff) And Thanks Spara50 for sharing what you have. I have Flinties that display with the open areas such as you have shown; they are just an easier ID with the little windows as described earlier. Backlight what you have and be rewarded! Flinties are cool marbles that were intended to be such and a very nice find. Marble—On and Share on as well!!!
