"However, unofficial trade was actively conducted through Hong Kong and Macau, allowing Japanese glass marbles to flow into China. Hong Kong also played a big part in distributing Japanese marbles to UK before 1954. This is when UK refused to import Japanese marbles with false most-favored-nation status via Hong Kong agents." I love how this bit is able to really make me wonder about the journey these marbles have had on their way to me (I'm in the UK).

3rd marble is my favourite in this line up!

@shiroaiko, hello, after your very informative advice on my most recent post, I thought you might like to have a look at this one, and share anything you might know.

And thanks for the labelling, I think this will be very useful for other collectors too.

Hiya! Thanks so much for your reply. These are real "sleeper" marbles, not sure if anyone gets what I mean, but I bought an Ebay lot because I spotted it had a couple of akro popeyes and a few other possibly interesting pieces. I hadn't really noticed these properly in the poorly taken photos, but once I sorted through everything, I noticed how stunning these are together. I'm quite frustrated because the seller didn't pack very well, and there was definitely a very small amount of glass dust when I unpacked (but in my excitement I forgot to take a picture as evidence). I think the akros suffered a little bit of fresh damage, but these seem to have escaped that fate incredibly well.

Hi, would all of these come under the term Japanese transistional? I think I have a few classed as figure 8s, but I'm not entirely sure. The quality and colours of this group are just gorgeous.

That was my initial thought but then I possibly got swayed by some Google misdirection...

Nice to know it's not just me then!

Aha, thanks, wouldn't have guessed that 😀

Oh, yeah, I just realised searching through there is really tricky as there are really specific names for everything. I think what you need to do is start measuring everything by the stud size, instead of actual measurements. For example, a common size for a base plate would be 16 x 16 (I think you need to include the spaces in this sort of search term.) So, for your bricks, you might be after 2 x 4. Flat pieces are categorised as plates and what, for some reason me and my kids refer to as "puffed up", would come under bricks. Another way to find things is to look at some online lego instructions (can be downloaded from lego.com) and the parts list at the back will have all the part ID numbers, which should be able to be used as a search term. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I do actually get a bit of a vitro feel from it, so maybe it goes with them for now...

Thanks folks, 3 x "not really sure" make for a useful answer anyway - I don't need to fall down a rabbit hole trying to figure it out just yet.

Whoops, not got into the habit of using that term properly yet...

Actually, to tell the truth - I actually found it when I was hoovering yesterday and assumed it came with the most recent lot I purchased. It's entirely likely that it came with a load of others that are Jabo, purchased at the start of the year...

Thanks for input, whatever it is, it's a beautiful marble...
