This is a real oddball, IMO. If you look at the last photo it appears that the whole area may have been "black" at one point and the bull's eye was made by removing the surface paint/surface in a ring. My guess it is very soft. And if you look at some areas it appears very light maybe even white underneath - like the vast majority of the marble's surface has a dirty patina. I forget what they call that very soft almost chalky white stuff they used to make marbles out of (@Alan ?) but that's what this reminds me of. Does it seem light for it's size?

As for the decorations, my best guess is that it may have been a painted clay marble at some point and wear has produced what appears to be a more elaborate form of decoration. It's also possible some kid decorated it themself at some point. It certainly wouldn't be the first time I have seen homemade decorations on a marble. Whatever it is, I am guessing it doesn't look anything like it did the day it was made.

    Thank you!  This is awesome!

There are two books that I would suggest to you--they are not cheap-but pretty new.

"Alley Agate Company: marbles and pressed glass" and the latest book-"West Virginia Swirls".

These will help in your venture.

You are a searcher and I will leave the rest to you--just because I would want it this way too.

I was able to steal this book on eBay for 20.00 Canadian yesterday.

    Can't wait to get it

Yixing Jinzhu Glass Products is the maker. I agree that the bombers are modern because the company was found in 1998.

The English name for these marbles is “milky marbles 6,” but in Chinese, they’re called “milky 8-petal marbles". It’s strange, but they use different photos and names for the English and Chinese versions of their website. So it’s worth checking both versions of the site.

    Great info.  Thank you!
