  1. #2 Likely Ravenswood. If Davis all the crème white would glow very bright. I agree years and years of experience, mind boggling. No magic book or guide to separate WV swirls.
  2. They all look like WV generic swirls. Could be from different makers. But most look Champion. The reasons they have almost no collector value.
  3. #1 = Alley #2 = Ravenswood . If it glows under black light it is Davis. One of the most rare machine made marbles. #3 = Champion #4 = Ravenswood or Alox. Probably Ravenswood.
  4. I agree. Most common color combo Popeye patch.
  5. Also a slag. Probably hand gathered with a tail-rough

    Ravenswood 1?

    Left= Alley Right= probably Ravenswood

    Ravenswood 2?

    With those sharp tips, straight ends to the swirls and the separate small pieces of red coming to the surface, points more to Alley.
  8. No clear base. Then nice Alley swirl from the Pennsboro site 1932-1937.
  9. Sure $3.00 why not. I have been searching my local Goodwill monthly or bimonthly for ten years. Also searching them to and from shows all over. I have yet to bring one marble home from Goodwill.
  10. If you back light it and it has a clear base. It is a nice Akro Popeye.

    Akro?

    The Vitro helmet face is not clear but colored transparent glass. Same with the similar Akros. The big difference is the stripe or narrow ribbon in or near the center of the Vitro helmet has the stripe. The similar colors of Akro patches do not have the stripe. Good quality vintage marbles do not scratch easily. The back of the jewel tray is off until the marbles are placed. When the back is removed the marbles fit loose. The marbles are inserted and the back of the tray is pressed in place, which tightens everything. Vitro Helmet = Transparent(red here)face, opaque white patch for main part of football helmet, A different color stripe( blue here)around the center of the white. Akro patch = Transparent(blue here)face similar to the helmet. White patch for the main body, similar to the helmet. But NO STRIPE through center of white. Akro patch = Transparent(green here)face similar to the helmet. Opaque white patch for the main body similar to the helmet. But no stripe or narrow ribbon of a different color around or near the center of the white,
  12. Is this one you yet do not have ? Or one in your current collection ?
  13. Most all of us started this way, more marbles, more marbles. But with time that changes for the majority. Sometime you will decided a certain marble you want, probably more than any you have paid for yet. You will get it and then ,move on to the next. As you get more experienced, some day ahead you will decided that you have to many or to many of the same thing. You will thin your early marbles down and focus more on quality and rare. But a few collectors never do this and are happy just collecting what catches their eye. Some collectors may have ten of the exact same $100.00 each marbles. The majority in time find one, two or three companies that they like and collect only those. Some collect only one single company, some collect only handmades or contemporary. But the majority like collecting a assortment. Collecting is learning, you always find that marble that you want to know more about. There are a lot of marbles to learn. It can last a lifetime. You will most likely change directions a few or several times collecting marbles. Lots of people could make suggestions of what to goal for. But that may depend on what they like or collect. Some like $1.00 marbles, some like $10.00 marbles, some like $100.00+ marbles. Some collect them all. Just make the goal attainable and what you like. Once you reach that, then it is time for another. There is a very wide variety of marbles and variety of people interested in collecting them, learning them and their history. All reasons collecting marbles has many different rewards for each collector. You may find that you also collect some long time very good friends while collecting marbles. Collect what you like. Change what you collect as you like.
  14. I have the same vote, Akro slag. You can find them with more white and more orange. The orange is probably actually red laying over top or under the white making it look orange. I think it is a two color slag. Jabo never produced any slag marbles.
