I have not seen this marble before that I know of. It would be just a guess, pick a swirl maker out of a hat would be as good. Maybe in hand a better guess, maybe not ? The pictures are good but never as good as in hand. Alley-Ravenswood- Heaton-Champion- ??. In the first picture, that dark line at the edge of the blue base is odd. Probably dark blue, but no where else on the marble does it show up.

I would like to be there to witness a few blind in hand test. I have lots of different marbles with white specks on them. What does Akro glass feel like ? I have lots of Vacor marbles that has no orange peel at all. I have stone marbles that have no facets. Put a Jolly Roger Akro which most or all have orange peel in one hand and a Vacor with orange peel in the other hand, the same size and separate them correct over and over. Can you separate a Alley Jolly Green Giant with the same size Jabo. Both can have the "soft glass" with the many white specks ? I understand that most anyone can feel orange peel, etc. But I don't understand what Akro glass feels like ???

With those double turkeys or hooks and the sharp tip in the 3rd and 4th pictures, I would say Alley.

Akro error. But I cannot tell you what Akro glass feels like. It should feel like glass. But many people mistake stone marbles for glass marbles. Identification by feel of the glass is totally new to me. I learn something every day. I have plenty of questions about the feel of glass. I worked at Fenton Art Glass in 1971. I have been watching and helping make glass marbles for over twenty years. Talked with many machine made marble company owners and employee's. But no one, not a single one of them ever told me they could identify glass by feel.

If you are ever going to resell any marble in one year or twenty five years, condition is number one. You might be able to buy a fractured Golden Rebel for $10.00 or $25.00 . Which mint range are normally $500.00-$700.00. But when you or someone tries to sell that fractured one it will still be $10.00 or $25.00 or less. The majority of todays collectors do not want place holders until they get a better one. I started that way but those days are gone. Collectors today have free information every where, and good information if you search enough. I was told early on over twenty five years ago. To buy the best quality that I could afford and the price or value would not drop. I was also told that the amount does not make a good collection. Quality makes a good collection. After over twenty five years I have learned. That In many ways one $100.00 marble is better than ten $10.00 marbles. When I am ready to sell that $100.00 marble, I sell one marble, one time and to one person. The $100.00 marble is far more likely to hold its value over many years or increase, than the ten $10.00 marbles. I was told by all this by several old experienced collectors. Did I take their advice, no. I had to have numbers and examples of everything. But after 10-15 years of that, I realized they were correct. I carried fifty pounds each of marbles in two or three tote bins up stairs to rooms at marble shows. The guy who carried two pistol cases of marbles up the same stairs left with more money from sales than I did. Buy what you like. Buy what you can afford. But do not buy, what you do not know. Unless you have plenty of money to gamble with. I have looked at four different groups of marbles here locally, from 50 marbles to 50 quarts this last three weeks. Each and every one of those people paid from three times, ten times or twenty times more than what the marbles were worth. One man paid $300.00 for the 50+ quarts. The best marbles in the entire group were 11 Vitro Blackies, at about $2.00 each. But he thought that he had hit the jackpot and $3000.00 worth of marbles. Again I had to disappoint four more people with the fact, they lost a lot of money. Now they will probably try to take advantage of some other person who knows nothing about marbles and their values. Or lose their money which most do not like to do. The cycle continues. Learn and buy. It can be expensive to buy and learn later. Learning marbles today can be free. But it will not be fast or easy. But marbles can have many different rewards. One of the best are the people all along the way.

As of yesterday the hotel had 42 rooms reserved for the May Mineral Wells (Parkersburg WV) marble show. On show day we will have the Wood County Marble Club kids shooting marbles. Three of those kids are going to the Nationals in Wildwood NJ. You might challenge them to a game ? There will be free pizza and drinks Friday evening. Some more surprises may show up. For more details the show flyer is posted here in the up coming shows information section.

Want it correct go direct to the source. Want to say Cairo WV correct. Go to or talk to someone who has lived in Cairo WV for 25 years. Three ways to pronounce Cairo. But only one way in Cairo WV.

I see one that is not a cork.

Nice cork.

Hang on until it is in hand. No changing things now. But the way that yellow is bleeding at the top makes me wonder ?

I have maybe 25 or more.

All depends on what good is ?

The #2 marbles all look like different marbles. The first top #2 looks like a red /yellow swirl. No way I can id it with one view. I cannot even be sure what the base color is ? Any marble named Superman has three colors. a blue base with red and yellow. Same as actual Superman colors. The second middle #2 looks like red base and blue swirl. Maybe Jabo ? The third bottom #2 looks like a orange base with yellow swirl. I think #1 is a Akro corkscrew. I am confused with #3. Each picture looks like a different end to the red color. The first and last picture are probably the same end. If so then it also could be a Akro corkscrew.

Ideas but nothing for sure. I am more familiar with and researched more USA made marbles.

I knew that I should have not put a dollar value on them. They may be worth $1000.00 each to someone. But find that someone. I put value or worth on marbles as to what I have seen them selling for in the last year. Not what they were listed for or asking price and not just one. I could make a long list of different values other than cash. But the bottom line is, if you want to or are selling, or asking if anything good, or what they are worth. The dollar value is what someone is willing to pay for that item that day. Depends on the eyes but any or every marble may be good or nice to someone in some manner. But receiving money for the same marble may be totally different. Good, nice, worth, value, can have many different meanings to different people. But the true cash value is what someone will pay for the item at that time. If you like them and don't need any more money. It is simple keep them, no matter what they are. It makes no difference what they are $1.00 each or $1000.00 each. Probably all collectors of two years or more has marbles that have a cash value of $1.00 or less but will not sell for $100.00 or maybe $1000.00. I know I do and most collectors that I know have them. But they may only have that value or worth to one person. That is not what I consider a actual worth or value of the marble. Some people may say great or nice or a keeper, but how much actual cash will they offer or pay you for it ? Most times nothing. Or direct you to someplace to sell it for a great or nice price within the next month ? Keep them, give them away, trade them for anything, or sell them for cash. But depending on what you are doing with them can make a difference. I assumed the owner wanted to know if their marbles had a dollar value or worth. Most people don't want to give away a $100.00 or more marble to kids for play. When people buy or sell marbles they sure have a dollar worth or value. Most times, if they are selling it is always high and if they are buying it is always low. The marbles cash worth is what you can sell it for at that time. Toy marbles are just round pieces of stone, clay, or glass, made for children's play.
-
Again I see no marble here worth $1.00 to collectors. Good for kids to play with.
-
I don't see anything here worth $1.00 each. No big collector value here, just common routine marbles found most places. You can find them in almost every antique store in a quart jar with a price tag of $20.00-$40.00 and they sit there for the next ten years.

I think they are all Jabo except the purple slag.

There is a good range of shades with these yellow base and red swirls made by Alley at Sistersville in 1931.
