Collectors...ethics..and The Buy It Now Offer
chucks_mibs replied to 3oranges's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
As a seller, I have this happen to me ALL THE TIME.....its to the point now that I have a "saved response" that I send to the lowballer: Sorry, this is not a "buy it now" listing .....This is an "auction style" listing which I feel should sell for fair market value......I would suggest that if you have a certain price cap, place that amount as your bid offering and if the bidding exceeds that amount, then you will feel good that you haven't gone above your capped price.... But the offers keep pouring in....In a few cases, the lowballer offer was way more than the marbles' final selling price (in all of those cases, they werent ever the winning bidder....lol).. Man o Man oh Man.....This fits my scenario so many times and so often ("strapped for cash") but in those instances, I have always opted for a "Buy it now" styled auction with a "make me an offer" option........ Many times I have purposely made the Buy it now price slightly below market value to increase my chance of selling the marbles so that "specific needs" get met and bills get paid etc -
There is no physical cut line where the seams are but below I have pointed out where the swirl termination points are.....

Wonder What It Will Look Like Cheep And Hoping
chucks_mibs replied to mmuehlba's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Nice score Mike....looks like a really cool mib....We are all anxiously waiting to see..... PS-When Red goes "submerged" into Opalescent (Blue) based glass....It gives off a Purple coloring Edit is in Red writing... (I meant to say Blue opalescent glass) -
Wonder What It Will Look Like Cheep And Hoping

Looks like the base glass is Opalescent and the cork look Dark reddish/Brown (Maybe Wine colored)....I hope it looks like the ones you already have......In any case, you cant go wrong for $2.11 delivered to your front door -
........will be ending real soon (within the hour)...........Have a gander! ........YOU CAN GO DIRECTLY TO THE AUCTIONS BY CLICKING ON THE ANIMATED PICTURE BELOW

Ravenswood With A Transparent Green Base ??
chucks_mibs replied to mmuehlba's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Alley is a good guess, I haven't seen very many marbles with that color combo...Im also thinking Ravenswood with that extra tan color.....whats the size?........ -
The green will absolutely not pass light.....but you can see bubbles "resting" slightly subsurface.....Almost looks like cased glass (like on some clambroths)
-
So far I've received mixed opinions whether this Is a NLR or a Rainbo?.....The marble measures 5/8" has colors of a MK Dragonfly.......I would like to ask of your opinions before I list it.....NLR or Rainbo?.......Is it because of the colors, the ribbon count or the ribbon configuration? and why?

The second set of photos look like its a transparent patch....Red transparent bubbly based glass with the trans green being the patch... Maker?...HMMM Akro or Master.......just my two cents..... PS-If its an Akro, its a pretty rare one...go check your Akro Patches, and see how many Transparent on Transparent's there are .......
-
Winnie, I find transparent colored marbles are extremely hard to photograph with accurate details.....and from the pics given, I can see it has Red and Green and also that the marble contains a ton of bubbles (looks like a patch?).....My question is, when held against different angles of lighting, does the marbles' overall appearance and the shape of the seams perhaps have characteristics of an Akro patch? EDIT: At the top half of the first picture (directly on and around the light reflections)....are those seams??

I just plugged in the reply on an online french translation service: French: "Usine de fabrication de Billes (jeu pour enfants) Cordialement." English translation: "Machines manufacture of Marbles (game for children) Cordially."

I was gettin ready to hit the "post" button and read stephs post......I'll say that the image in the top left post IS the same marble in the article............okay ...heres what I was going to post: I agree with Rics marble being a Master as well Im thinking Master for the one in the article...Here is a detail ...Look at those Master style eyelashes and definate "U" seam Here is a detail of a Clownfish (sorry for the pixelation) ...Look how the colors meet at "a tip" (most Vacors do this).....totally different IMHO

That one looks totally master....has a little green in it too

I thought this would be interesting for the thread........ I have only been collecting for 14 years and still consider myself a pup in the hobby...In that time, I haven't seen a Master with a blue and orange color combo (by far I'm not implying that they don't exist).....If they do, I would conclude that this one would be a little harder to find.....I also agree with Leroy that the way the yellow/orange pulls over into the blue is a sure sign that it could very well be a Master Made Marble.... However, I do know that Akro did several types of Orange and Blue.....do a "completed auction" search on eBay with Akro Blue Orange Patch as the search keywords and they show several Blues and Oranges (transparent, translucent and opaque samples).......... The below link is one that I found interesting.....it shows a variety and also one with blending of the 2 colors (the center one).........what do you all think? http://www.ebay.com/...=p2047675.l2557

Duffy, is the last one you posted a Master as well?
-
I stand corrected....the marble reminded me of the orange and blue patch type as seen here at the bottom center (not the large claudia).....and I have seen some with the same type glass which the blue is semi-transparent
-
Im gettin an Akro feel for this one....(pattern and colors)
-
The glass and colors look like Akro to me but the seam design looks very much like Master....(an orange and blue blend for the odd color?)....perhaps a shot of the other seam would reveal insight....size?

same here....for the past couple of years, Ive done all of my postage online as well....Its so cool to be able to just "drop off the package".......I havent used their "pick up service" yet, but know its available and I would imagine that short are the days in which USPS will pick-up your packages...( Im figuring alot of "perks" will be stopped to save money) If they are losing money on people re-using the boxes at cheaper postage rates.....just stop giving away the free boxes! and let people buy them.....Perhaps there is much more $$ for them in many ways if they did that!
-
Ive had a bunch of these and every time i sell one, I get mixed reaction from marble collectors....Mostly torn between Master and Akro.....Ive always thought them to be Master....but?....
-
Yes....and the seller stated as such....I think the auction is no longer available for eBay viewing...He said something about the dividers that had printing with rules for 1930's ringer.....But it was also since the box had "unique" written on the top, this brings up again the relation of Akro stock being used by Master ......So I guess the "saga" continues.... PS- the "saga", meaning who made these?...Master Akro, MK, or Peltier

For those of you who try to ship "first class" using the free boxes from USPS, they are really starting to "crack down" on the use of the free "USPS priority mail" boxes......They are really stepping up the inspection process for misuse of these boxes....Apparently people are "flipping" the boxes inside out and also covering them with wrapping paper before trying to send merchandise.....but the inspectors are sending them back to the originator and also demanding the price difference between priority mail and "first class" delivery prices....or in some cases the difference is passed on to the recipient in the form of COD..... I have only done this a couple of times in the past and never had a return or got charged, but they are certainly stepping up the game.... CLICK THIS LINK to see the big controversy about recycling vs throwing away the boxes...pretty interesting. Ironically, priority mail costs twice as much as first-class mail, but doesn't arrive at its destination any quicker.

When I saw the box labeled "cloudys" in the thread opener, I thought Id throw this in as part of the discussion....Here is a box of supposed Master cloudy's that sold on the bay a couple of months ago.....The marbles inside have been a source of confusion for collectors for a long time...some say Pelt others say MK and yet others say Master for the blue and green Aventurine mibs....Note that the box cover says, "uniques" and the side says "cloudy" Not really sure if the marbles are original to the box........could these be AKRO????
