Swissmarble
Hi folks A friend of mine won this auction on ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/131070192063 He got the marble in the meantime and now has some doubts if it is really old. It looks old to me, but I am not totally sure either. Usually, these marbles with large mica-flakes are onionskins, often with shrunken cores. But this one seems to be a Josephs Coat, isn't it ? Or would you call it an onionskin ? And the one (polished) pontil (which was not shown in the aucton - see attached picture) looks strange, doesn't it ? Thanks for your help. William Marbles
I was going to bid on that... sure is a eye catcher. Well, did 'your friend' due the old 'UV' test to see if it glowed slightly?
lstmmrbls
More pictures needed to know for sure but I certainly see why he has questions.
lopacki
For what it is worth my vote is new. I am seeing more than a few "old" hand made swirls that I question. As long as it did not cost a lot its a nice marble whether new or old. All my best ..... Danny
Swissmarble
Hi I was going to bid on that... sure is a eye catcher. Well, did 'your friend' due the old 'UV' test to see if it glowed slightly? William, it is really a friend of mine who bought this marble, I havn't even seen the listing. No, he didn't do the UV test yet, I doubt he has an UV light but this was the next thing I would have recommended him too. I just thought I will ask the community first, I was hoping someone has seen such a marble before. Thanks Ron
MC Marbles
I'm thinking a newer marble as well. Just my opinion.

lopacki
Me again. As I was eating lunch I had some more thoughts. All of the German hand made marbles I have pretty much all have the same color pallet, this said when I see a marble that falls out of this pallet of colors I have to question it. I just went and looked at the listing again and I feel the colors are not the true "old color" All my best ... Danny

Stefan
Hello Guys, thank you for your help! I don't own a UV-Lamp but as i have one at the Laboratory i work, i will test the marble after Holidays. As longer as i look at it, the more i doubt its old... another point is the color of the red stripes. I dont have a single other old marble with such a deep intense red, but i dont know if this is a criteria... I'm also still pondering over that Pontil which looks grinded. I still haven't lost my faith in Humanity but could there be some people which are grinding away Signatures on marbles? Again, thanks for your help! Stefan
Ok, i just UV-tested the marble together with some others. I expected it not to glow but it did exactly the opposite thing :-) As you see, the others are glowing in a soft yellow, the regarded marble glows in a bright blue... i'm guessing this makes it quite sure its new, what do you think? Sorry about that bad Photo Quality i just got my old phone to take pictures right now...
