Apparently these marbles have driven me out of my mind.

Because here are my immediate questions.

Given the shape of the 'canvas', are the straight lines

actually curved and the curved lines actually straight?

Are the marbles sitting in snow?

And is that a miniature security tag on the one on the left?

Bob,

Coming up with questions does not mean you're losing your mind.

Quite the opposite.

Here are some answers:

"Given the shape of the 'canvas', are the straight lines

actually curved and the curved lines actually straight?"

All the lines are straight. A good question, since that's actually hard to figure out without the marble in hand.

Even Greg Pessman (pig farmer turned master china painter) got it wrong, until he got to see the marble on the left in person.

"Are the marbles sitting in snow?"

No, that's just the cotton-like batting that comes in those glass top cardboard display cases.

"And is that a miniature security tag on the one on the left?"

You'd go out of your mind if I told you.

Those are straight Lines. They are paralel at one point, at another point they are crossing each other in a 90° angle... that's called non-euclidean geometry :)... they really great!

Bob, these Vtro were made in Anacortes and quite rare. They were an experimental thing and There were only about 120 made if memory serves. There were a few different colors. It is said that there were visitors at the plant in Anacortes around the time of these experiments whom were shown the proscess and those visitors were from Vacor. This is very well were Vacor came up with the marbles they ran that are similar.

Interesting!

These fit in with something I was thinking somewhere recently about

liking simple 'minimalist' designs. More isn't always better.

And thanks for mentioning Vacor. I haven't looked to see what

they're doing for a long time. 120! You'd have to call that run 'limited'! ( :

Another one made more interesting by lack of symmetry!

(Among other things, note 6 stripes on top, 7 on bottom.)

Can we assume that the Vitro Cats and Whities were made

such that one could find pretty much identical marbles in

the three sizes listed? I've always enjoyed finding marbles

that match one I already have, but in a different size.

(One of the things I really liked about the salesman case!)

And only one of those fluoresces. Weird.

Sometimes trying different lighting approaches really gets me going.

What does this thing actually 'look like'?

Is sunlight more 'real' than black light, or just what we're used to?

If a tree falls... I'm going to shut up now and hopefully keep you all as friends!
