SirCray
Firkin. Sounds like something I'd say if I stubbed my toe on something.

Al Oregon
TV - then video games - then cellphones, iPads, etc. Kids don't stand a chance of being normal like "we" were in the old days....

ann
Remember jungle gyms made out of metal pipe and fittings? Ours had the added interest of being installed on a bed of cinders. On any given day, you felt like you hadn't been to school unless you were bleeding somewhere . . .
kbobam
Great article! Were 'young people' allowed to play? I'm picturing myself as a 'concerned parent'. I'd really want to make sure that 'dear old dad' would be legally allowed to accept 'Little Bobby's' firkin prize!
ann
Were 'young people' allowed to play? Surely (don't call me Shirley) they were. But a lot of the players were grown-ups. Those ole Roly Hole guys in the annual Tennessee tournament (using hand-ground flinties) went over to Tinlsey a few years ago and won it, much to the good-natured horror of the Brits. Ric
Interesting, I wonder if the firkin ever made it out of the park after the tourney.
