Ric
It's a pretty marble - a couple of more views might help. It looks like it might be something other than a Popeye to me but . . .?
sclsu
Looks like a limeade/lemonade hybrid or something closer to that
Ric
Maybe a Moss Agate or Blueberry Ade variant. Does it glow under UV?
he5972
I keep resizing the pictures too small and they look distorted when stretched. Of course I didn't choose "save as" - haha! Getting it up now. Only a small filament deep inside glows.
he5972
Looks like a limeade/lemonade hybrid Thanks - googling that now.
Ric
I think it might be an Ace. If it were an Ade it would glow like crazy.
Steph
Oh that's gorgeous. And not a popeye. And yes to hybrid. I think Akro would have created it as a Moss Agate. And collectors might call it an Ace. And this is where I put my standard reminder that for Akro, the Moss Agate was the top of their line. One of their most expensive marbles. Not even a little bit boring like some people might think the patch-style Moss Agates are.
sclsu
I am sticking with an "ade" Hybrid. My understanding is that an ace would be a cloudy, translucent base, an ade would be a cloudy translucent base with a white and another color(s) swirled/corked (does it have to be uv?), and a most agate with a cloudy translucent base. sclsu
On the left, an ade. On the right, an ace.
lstmmrbls
But Akro did not make an "Ade" They made Moss Agates, Steph is very correct in her statement
sclsu
But Akro did not make an "Ade" They made Moss Agates, Steph is very correct in her statement I believe akro marketed the ades under the name "imperials" (AMMM page 23) and are specifically corkscrews while moss agates where described as patch type Marbles in akro literature
Steph
Many marbles were sold in Imperial packaging. And Akro advertising also described Moss Agates as having exquisite patterns. There were different styles of Moss Agates. Original Imperials:
Steph
For collectors typically Ades will glow. But I'm not sure if all the different marbles tagged with some variation of the Ade name glow.
Steph
For some reason I'm also thinking Blueberry on Jenn's marble. Edited September 20, 2015 by Steph
Steph
LOL ... now I want to talk/ask about all the different marbles collectors call Ades, but I'm going to start a different thread on that.
