jeeperman
Not a huge score but I like it. Just shy of 1 inch, some pocket wear and a bubble pop but other than that, this single ground pontil swirl breaks the dry spell. =} While Amber it backlights more red. Steph
Thank you for showing us they're out there. You've already had a good year and it's just February.
jeeperman
You are welcome Steph, they are out there. Thought I would throw it up and see what is said about it. I am not much of a hand made period collector but believe I have read here that it is now thought that some Navarre have ground rather than melted pontil. I was wondering what the good folks here might think of this. Hand made slag? Horizontal swirl? There is one of the surface ribbons that goes slightly under the surface, the rest remain on top. It back lights more red than amber. I had enough idea about it to know I had to snatch it up before it was put in the for sale display. =} It was just to darn cool. Ric
Nice snag, Jeeper. It's a keeper. Not my strong suit, but FWIW, it looks Navarre to me. Regardless, I like it!
jeeperman
Thanks Ric, that has been my thought and then that got stronger with the back lighting to a red, but it was really just a guess as it is not my strong suit either. Ric
Is that what they'd call a Grenier?
I'llhavethat1
ooo, oo, oo Nice marble. 1 vote for a German cane-cut slag. "Greiners" are the hand-gathered ones (usually with a nine pattern) and a faceted pontil. Close to 1 inch is a big one
jeeperman
Thanks for the input guys. Yes, less than a 1/16 from 1 inch.

I'llhavethat1
Someday I'll get better at my photo-cropping skills, but here is a similar slag (a hair over 1"). Common to find these with bubble pops
