budwas
Are there any old iridescent, transparent base glass marbles like Patches or swerals?
Steph
Sometimes marbles which have been buried a long time end up iridescent.

Looking at auctions on ebay.fr you frequently come across iridescent marbles in lots where the others are clearly vintage - now marbles of different ages do get mixed together, but I wonder whether they were made in Europe earlier than is generally suspected? budwas
Manofkent I also wonder because I have one that was in with some vintage marbles. The thing about it is that there is a patch over the iridescent part that is not iridescent. I think Steph is right about being buried, and some glass must be more susceptible to change due to minerals in the soil. Ionknow!

I've noticed -- primarily with Alley cullet, anyway -- that dark blue seems particularly susceptible to iridescence during burial. Those so-called Alley "Abalones" are a product of that . . .
