budwas
New or old? I don't have it in hand but hoping for some insight as to what it is. Thanks
Steph
New-ish. Could be as early as the 1980's. Could be more recent. Vacor Galaxy.
Steph
I do not know if they are still in production.

Al Oregon
Not sure about Galaxies but it does look like older Vacors (80's to early 90's) - here's pic someone posted years ago. Is yours opaque?
Steph
I've seen you make a distinction about Galaxies before ... but not understood. Am I lumping too many marbles under the "Galaxy" name?
budwas
I have a galaxy that I posted a couple months ago. It has colored spots on the surface that almost looks like paint spattered on it. This one appears to have the colors buried under clear. I'll have to wait until next week when I get home. Al Oregon
Steph - I think it is the large botched ones that I don't view as Galaxies. Here's a pic from David Chamberlain's box (from Vacor) plus a couple other bag pics from Qualatex and early Mega. None seem to have the large blotch types. Steph
Thanks, Al. Hmmmmm ... I guess I call 'em "close enough". Which might sound strange coming from me since I am often such a purist. But if they don't have another name option floating out there ...
ann
Maybe I'm just tired, but to me it looks like it could be a fancy bennington. Maybe I should go lay down.
budwas
NO Ann, don't lay down now! Take another look!
I'llhavethat1
Bizarre handmade, is that what you're thinking? The yellow, green, red combo wasn't unheard of for some of those blotchy onionskin-type marbles...but I'm pretty convinced this isn't one. Good luck
budwas
I'll be home in a week, will follow up on this then.

I can see it being glazed ceramic of the fancy bennington type. Depends on how you squint your eyes when you look at it.
cheese
My first impression was a blotchy onionskin cased in clear. Edited: Now I see that it is next to other marbles, so I assume this is 5/8" instead of 1.5 or 2", so it isn't one.
budwas
In hand now, Steph was right! Vacor it is.
Steph
Just for fun, try to see deep inside ... maybe with a flashlight ... Sometimes there will be a cat eye in there ....... for example ......
