budwas
I ran across this while looking at marble pictures on the net. I have never seen any marbles with a dull silver metallic stripe. Anybody know what it is?
Steph
The first thought which comes to mind is a JABO Lawnchair Marble. That's my opening guess. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xjabo+lawnchair.TRS0&_nkw=jabo+lawnchair&_sacat=

Steph
Now ... I can't remember if a lawnchair was actually involved or not .....

Nantucketdink
It's a JABO Moonglow, not a Lawnchair. Many people refer to the Moonglow run as the Lemonade Oxblood Run as that was one of the marbles made during the run.
Steph
Thanks, Josh. Bud, definitely take Josh's verdict over my guess.

Nantucketdink
That specific marble happens to be mine, but I have a lot of other metallic swirls from that run too. I have found that metallic swirls can look both shiny or dull. Metallic swirls appear on several different runs of marbles beyond the Lawnchairs. Al Oregon
Josh - what is the main difference, in looking at the marble, between a Moonglow and a Lawnchair?
Nantucketdink
The metallics in the Moonglow Run are also on relatively dark transparent based marbles. The differences are what colors are swirling around on the inside and the different base hues/colors. I need to take some photos to show the differences. Nantucketdink
Columbusrockhound has a great single photo of the Moonglow Run showing the various marbles in the run at the WVMCC site.

ann
I'm not familiar with the Moonglow run, but I have some metallics I think were from the Lawnchair run that were called "Woodstocks," with dark colors swirling in the inside -- how do they differ from the Moonglow ones? In case I run into any?

Rumor has it, back in the old days certain beer/beverage cans somehow ended up in with the molten glass (the results can range from everything between brown, dull, silver etc.) But who knows. Could be some of the marble companies of that era were getting reclaim/recycled materials from other glass companies that did leaded/stained glass. Somebody posted a pic of some vintage ones a while back.

Nantucketdink
The 3 previous photos give you an idea about both the 3/4" Lawnchairs and the 5/8" marbles with the same name. They are decent enough to match up marbles in hand with either the Lawnchairs or the Moonglows
ann
OK -- so the 3/4" Lawnchairs and the 5/8" Lawnchair Metallics (at least some of which are "Woodstocks") were run on different days. . .
Nantucketdink
The Metallic Woodstocks are 3/4" marbles and yes I believe the different sizes were made on different days and yet named the same thing. I like to think that that chair got around.
