Rachel623
I know it's really beat up and chipped looking and it is hard to catch the marble in the right light to see where the red shines through... can anyone help me identify
Ric
Almost every company made transparent marbles using colored glass. Some folks call them purees. Without some sort of structure, swirling, a patch or an opaque color, they are pretty much impossible to identify. And although, there might be a couple of very specific colors that can be attributed to a maker, red is not one of them.
Rachel623
It's not really transparent a lot of it is covered in black and the red shines through in certain spots. When you look at it with a light it specifically looks like a circle around the top or bullseye of red
Ric
I can't see that in the pictures. It just looks like a really dark red marble to me, and if the red is dark enough, it will look black.
Ric
Is there anything shimmering inside the marble?
I'llhavethat1
The "bullseye" could be a fracture from taking a hit. Light refracts differently through those and could be why it looks more red in that area.
Chad G.
I agree, a huge, hard bullseye shaped hit, you can see the big round fracture lines clearly reflecting the light in almost every pic.. This mib took a substantial hit, "several of them" the big one looks like someone took a hammer to it, you usually don't get hits that big from another mib, unless they're using a big ball bearing or steelie. Maybe someone shot it out of a slingshot at a brick wall, who knows ?? The fractures can block the light as well as reflect it, that's probably what you're seeing. Clearie or whatever, I'm sorry to say the marble is done for.

wvrons
No. It is damaged glass.
Ric
5 hours ago, Rachel623 said: Yes The reason I asked is because there is such a thing as a red mica marble. Mica looks like little chips of mirror-like metal and I think should be obvious if there is any in there. You have to be careful looking for it though because internal fractures and even reflections from surface damage can give the appearance of mica. In some cases, you might need a very bright light and some magnification to distinguish one from the other.
