Ric
Can anyone show me a pic or describe a Vitro Tomato? I think they're big marbles, red-orange would be my guess but . . . ?
wvrons
They can be 5/8 or 7/8 Vitro marbles. They look opaque but are translucent. They are a mix of red and orange colors with some clear mixed in making them translucent. When backlit they do have a pattern. They can be found in some Vitro game marble box sets. Also in the large 7/8 inch game marbles box set. They were named many years ago. I think they are mentioned in Greenbergs Guide to Marbles book. Along with the Vitro Treasure Chest and many other forgotten marble items. Like many marbles once you have then in hand, they can be picked out more easily. I will get some pictures of Vitro Tomato and post next.
wvrons
The Vitro Tomato is overlooked 99% of the time with normal game marbles. They need a bright light and a close look. As usual the background can also make them easier to spot. The larger 7/8 ones are much easier to see the pattern in the difference of the red and orange color. With a bright light the orange can get thin and look a little like yellow. You can find the cut line on some with a bright light and close inspection. They are a common game marble and they produced many of them, They are just overlooked. My pictures have bright light added to the marbles. You may want to check game marbles, if you want to collect a few of these little known Vitro marbles. 5/8 inch below. They are more difficult to see the difference in the red and orange. Some of my pictures look a little pink, but that is due to the bright light. In hand and normal light these look just plain red.
wvrons
A few things that Vitro included the Vitro Tomato marbles in. The Chinese checker board is large, it requires the 7/8 inch marbles. I know of about four of these boards. A box of Vitro 7/8 inch game marbles with the Tomato marbles. Both items are rare. Plus a Vitro made necklace with the Vitro Tomato marbles. EEEE Even game marbles can be collectible !

Chad G.
Yeah Buddy !! An Alley "Monochrome" (game marble) I remember posting this on AAM last year. I found this one and a couple Akro oxbloods ( bricks) digging through over half a 5 gallon bucket of game marbles, I love it, like finding a needle in a haystack or a gold nugget on a hillside. a waste of time to most, but most rewarding to some. I believe if I was a digger, or had a chance to dig, they would have called me the mole. Beauty, as always is in the eye of the beholder, there's no way I could capture how great this one is in hand, I tried for over an hour, endless different bulbs and positions, this is as good as it gets. Ric
Yup, the patterns on game marbles aren't usually too different from the rest of the marbles a given maker produced - makes sense too.
wvrons
There are 6 or 8 Alley yellow monchrome game marbles on Ebay now for $400.00. If they are ture Alley's ? Your monochrome caught on with someone. A little to high, no a way to high price for me.
