Jabo Classic?

 I know it’s at least *20 years old, 1 inch, purchased out of a barrel of marbles in North Carolina. In the sun the swirls look very red, but in any other light the swirls appear rust colored. Unfortunately I’m out of town and I don’t have any other mibs to put next to it for comparison. A little damaged, can’t find a pontil. Any guesses? My only guess is Jabo Classic.

Not Jabo at 30 years old. Jabo was not making one inch marbles 30 years ago. It is a machine made marble. Machine made marbles have no pontils ever.

Ron, what year did Jabo start making 1 inchers?  Almost but not quite a 30 years ago?


If this is older than that, does the size make it an Alley?

Jabo did not make 7/8 or one inch marbles until the late 1990's.   If 30 years old or older, that points to Alley or Akro for this marble.  But the base is unusual for a one inch Alley.  The base and colors fit Akro and like many Vitro and some of the larger Akro marbles twisted or swirled.

I wasn't at all sure when Jabo started making larger marbles.  All I knew was it was sometime in the 1990's.

Unfortunately, I’m still in the process of obtaining a black light, so I am nature if it luminesces or not.

New information: I spoke to the person I got the marble from, turns out it’s actually 20 years old, said she saw a barrel of pretty marbles for sale in North Carolina and bought a handful for 2 dollars each. Will update if I find some calipers and a black light

I have 1” range JABOs from 1994.  Most of those first ones are closer to game marbles than swirls.  Just sharing.
