Pelt White Slags.

Recommended Posts

Bang ! I've been wondering about this for at least 12 years now. There was only one pic on the Boards when I was there. The picture was terrible and no one ever confirmed this before I left the Boards 12 years ago. Thanks Chad

Ghost is the word !! I've heard there is provenance from 1926 that Peltier did produce white slags as one of their more common onyx, I know, I know you couldn't prove the "common' thing to me judging by the number of them I've seen , two (2) total since the late 80's. I believe Ron S. has a good line on this subject and am sure he will have something to add to the discussion.

I describe Pelt's Slags have white Gill Plates like fish have. Easiest Slag Trait I think with Slag I.D.'s FWIW

I know people have the misconception (as I did) that all pelt slags were feathered (gilled) as you say. but I have seen pics of some in boxes, supposedly, not backfilled that had no feathering ??

The way I look at it as far as any reputable long lasting marble manufacture is odds are "almost" every color combination or variance you could think of, mistake (so called "one offs) has been made. I stopped doubting anything to do with mibs a long time ago. Marbles are one of the oldest toys or games known to man, I don't believe most have any idea how far back they actually go.

I have no doubt at all that Peltier produced white feathered slags.  Peltier made the more normal hand gathered slags. I see no reason why they would not have made white.   I am not expert on identifying Peltier slags other than the feathered slags. Gino B. was good at it. He pointed out a few for me in some of my marbles for about three years at Decatur. I had three hand gathered Peltier slags, not the feathered slag. One brown, one green, and a dull yellow. I have had a couple box sets of Peltier Cerise slags. Some are red and white and some are more orange and white.  So Peltier used white in making two or three different style slags.
