William
They are all between 0.94-0.97....with the same patch of color on each side.
Ric
They're pretty cool looking - foreign, I think, but not sure where they come from.
William
I was trying to compare them to other patch-type marbles from various makers but not a clear match as of yet. I'm thinking I'm with you on the foreign possibility...
Chad G.
Agree, Foreign manufacture to me also, not sure from where though ??
William
Thanks again, Ric and Chad...I know where I can get more of them, relatively inexpensive purchases too. Maybe I'll pick up the rest of them just to have them as the unknown factor is quite intriguing 😊
William
Thought I would add a close up of the base glass....
Ric
I noticed that orange peel texture in the first pics. It's often associated with Vacor. But you also see it on some big old Akros, like Claudias and Jolly Rogers, where it adds an interesting dimension to the marble. It's usually considered a flaw that is associated with poorly made marbles (the big Akros are all dug, as far as I know, and the surface texture may be why they were discarded, but I actually like the effect on those marbles). With the 6 I picked up, the surface where the color is does have some "pitting" too them, but very minimal. The orange one does have a nice little "blowout" on the surface in the color though, but don't think it's from play impact?
Ric
It looks like a big bubble might have had a thin flake of glass covering it. When the glass "cover" broke away, likely during early production, it left the "sharp" edges around the rim. If it popped when the glass was still hot the divot would have a smooth melted rim, IMO. wvrons
I think the originals are from Japan. There is a man on All About Marbles who is in Japan and doing lots of research on marble companies there. He has come up with drawings, pictures, patents, company names, interviews with past owners and workers. The latest is Duck Marbles.
