akroorka
I was checking my WVS hoard today for some Ravenswood marbles to ID and as always I got distracted. The first row of two images is backlit.( pretty cool huh?) Ignore the orange reflection on the upper right hand on the final two rows of two. It was too chilly in the basement today so I was out of my lighting realm. This one is 5/8” and I think that it is a nice Champion. As always, when I ID a WVS I need a little help. I appreciate any and all opinions. No UV reaction. Backlight them all!! Marble—On!!
Ric
Dang Art, that's a nice one! To me, it seems a little too nice for a Champion transparent swirl - even an old one, so I think there is a good chance for Ravenswood or maybe Alley. I've seen similar marbles from both companies. This is an Alley - a big one . . .
akroorka
Thanks Ric, The brown in the backilight has me wondering. It is more obvious in hand under direct light. Why should I get distracted--lol? As always, I appreciate all input. That is a nice Alley that you posted Ric! One vote for Ravenswood/Alley and I respect it--any others?? Marble--On!! akroorka
Ok then, a Ravenswood it is. I will have to start picking out some more "Champions". Thanks all! Marble--On!!
Jzoook6
you wonderful people IDed this one as Ravenswood and it looks similar to your beaut, @akroorka, particularly in backlit-mode.
Ric
52 minutes ago, akroorka said: I will have to start picking out some more "Champions". One of the challenges with sorting Champions is that there just aren't a lot of good original bags from the early "mesh bag" years for sure examples, and a lot of those marbles are pretty nondescript transparent swirls. When it comes to their later wire-pulls and NOFs, it gets a little easier. But there are no doubt a lot of Champions out there since they cranked them out for about 50 years - my bet is only Alley made more WV Swirls than Champ did.
