Chuck G
Being a (repo) is a very good question. I have seen over the years these that are close to older scrimshawed examples but very well could be a repo. Walk cautious on purchasing these types of games. Get some past information that could help also, but remember (stories) are very easily made up. If you get some good documentation from the past, it could be a very good item to have in a collection. Ric
It's really hard to see the designs, since the photo is so small. The reproductions I have seen are usually made of resin and they can look remarkably similar to old original designs. In hand, it is much easier to tell, of course. I do know that scrimshaw boards anything like this are exceedingly rare and very pricey. I am not even sure I have seen one outside of a museum collection. So the bottom line is that I would exercise extreme caution purchasing something like this without giving it a thorough inspection in-hand. Is there any sort of description posted with it? It's plastic if I remember right. $30.00 is probably around what it costs brand new. I guess if you like it then no loss ??
