YasudaCollector
I bought this one inch marble from a collector in Missouri a couple months ago. Based on the twisted pontil, it looked to me like some kind of Chinese transitional. Is it a modern replica, or is it an older Chinese marble (mid-century)?

YasudaCollector
Thanks! 🙂 Is it at least like 20 or 30 years old? I have some of these that are like 10 years old, and the swirls look a lot more uniform.
I'llhavethat1
I'd lean towards modern based on the views shown, but what does the pole opposite the pontil look like?
YasudaCollector
The opposite side of the marble from the pontil is a little flatter than the other parts of the marble. It is also largely the white base color with very few of the orange swirls reaching that side.
daddio68
If that's a pontil, Id guess it's transitional. I have a similar one that appears in an eBay lot. Wider ribbon, but similar. The verdict so far is Japanese. I'll take it with me to the Maine show.
Nantucketdink
I don’t believe I am familiar with Chinese transitionals. Would love to see some more. I was going to throw Bulgarian out there as a possibility especially because of the size, but I am unfamiliar with Chinese ones. Talking about the original marble. 2
cheese
Bulgarian was my immediate impression when I saw it as well.
YasudaCollector
Hmm, interesting. It seems like these Bulgarian marbles are starting to pop up in a lot of different places. I see a ton of them on ebay.
