Some basic questions from a new "Marblest"

Recommended Posts

First off what do those who dabbles in the marvel of marbles refer to them selves as? A Marbler? Marbliest? Marblehead?

Is there a hobby standard for sorting? Is it maker, colors, sizes, styles, age or a combination of things? Or is it just a to each his/her own way of doing it?

Is there any sort of storage standard for transportation and presentation. I could imagine showing up to a marble show with my collection in Tupperware containers or a large fishing tackle box, and feeling like a total buffoon.

Also is it taboo or frowned upon to store or transport multiple marbles in a shared container and have them all clacking against each other?

And perhaps the first question I should of asked, because I've only been interested in marbles for a month and I have already heard it to many times, how worn out is the joke or question about losing your marbles? Lmao My wife hasn't miss mentioning it a single day since I started. But I dont miss an opportunity to call her over and say "Look at this one, isn't it just marbleous" or "marble in its beauty".

I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer these basic questions for me. Maybe there is an idiots quide to marble collecting I could read. Lol Thanks in advance for responding.

#1. Mibster ::  There are however separate (pet) names that have been adopted by people who collect by individual manufacturers i.e. "Pelthead"  "Akronaught"  "Vacorian" etc..

#2.  Sort however you wish but there are standard ways marbles are sorted, manufacturer, size, rarity etc...

#3. Most use pistol cases w/ dimple foam inside for storage or transport to keep your mibs well separated & safe, display is a whole different story. Yes a taboo to have them clacking against each other, condition is everything and such transport or storage may cause damage.

#4. Oh boy  :eusa_doh:

When your out and about and haven't scored in a while, it's rather easy for the "marbleaholic" to take over...As Chad might remember, one time I turned Green....

I have only called myself a marble collector. Sort by the marble maker first then by pattern then optionally by color. Marbles in contact with other marbles is frowned on but not taboo, mostly depending on value. Get used to hearing about lost marbles.

It is all trial and error my marble collecting friend.

This place here "The Marble Connection" is as close to an idiots guide as there is and by the way there are newbies, veterans and everything inbetween---not to many idiots. We all learn something new everyday.

I was just teased for loosing my marbles yesterday--it is still funny😁.

Marble--On!!
