YasudaCollector
Hey everybody! Just thought I'd post this real stumper I found earlier today at a nearby antique shop. It appears to be some kind of contemporary hand made marble, but other than that, I really don't know. Any id help is much appreciated! 🙂

Ric
I agree it's contemporary. It's a pretty chunk of glass, what size is it? I assume you looked for a makers mark?
YasudaCollector
It's about 1 and 3/8 inches (at the widest part).
Fire1981
The ground pontil is really cool🔥 RAR
YasudaCollector
I looked all over the marble (very closely) for an artist's signature, but there isn't one. Also, the circular shape at the top of the marble appears to be some kind of smoothed out pontil since it is slightly uneven/raised from the rest of the marble. I couldn't quite get it in the pictures, but the base glass is totally clear (colorless), only the swirls are blue and white.
YasudaCollector
Is it some kind of Chinese or Bulgarian marble?
YasudaCollector
I agree though, whatever it is, it looks like a really beautiful piece. 🙂
Fire1981
It’s pretty cool how they started it with a counter clockwise spin and then twisted it with a clockwise spin. Cut it off and then ground the pontil. It’s probably Bural glass. Does the surface glass feel oily🔥 RAR
YasudaCollector
Oh cool! Yeah, as a matter of fact the glass does feel oily (even though the marble is perfectly clean).

Imho this is a weak attempt at making a marble. Perhaps someone just is getting into glass making and trying out orbs. Is it cool?—well it sure is, I love the colors. I will not lie here and tell you that it is great. If the maker was proud of his/her work—it would be signed. Marble—On!!
Fire1981
It’s a Peterson. I’ll post some pics later. I have some of his 2 inchers🔥 RAR
YasudaCollector
Interesting. 🙂 Even if its kinda lopsided/crudely made I still really like the character and the use of color. At the very least its a neat, out of the ordinary find.

Ric
@Fire1981Â They're both really cool. Are they polymer?
Fire1981
No ! I think they are cane made from some kind of glass called Baro or Borough. LOL ! I use to to know all of my Contemporary glass types🔥 RAR
Fire1981
I’m starting a new thread in General about Contemporary Marbles. There was a Contemporary Marble Board I use to follow. Marbles are marbles 🔥 RAR

A good idea - now that we have completely hijacked Yasuda Collector's thread. 😜 But do a quick search first because I know several topics have been started in the past, and it's always nice to build on what we already have. It gives us a chance to bring what are often very good posts back to the surface for newer collectors - assuming there aren't too many broken photo links or other unpleasantness. As for your big art glass marbles, I like them! But I didn't think Marlow Peterson made glass marbles, which is why I asked for a first name and thought they might be polymer.
YasudaCollector
🤣 Don't worry guys! I absolutely love uncovering/learning new info.  Man! Those Petersons look gorgeous! I can really see the resemblance to the one I bought, except that mine is kinda wonky 🙂.  So was it actually Marlow Peterson who created these guys?
