Fire1981
🔥 Vintage Akro Agate Co. Popeye Marble -- Cobalt Blue & Red Example! | eBay RAR
akroorka
There is some Ox involved here Fire. Pretty rare for a "Popeye". This marble has been at the very least "Buffed"--image two shows it quite nicely (notice the sharp edges on the blow out). This is one of the old ones from the Akro digs that were fixed years ago imho. I appreciate all opinions and hope to see some more. Marble—On!!

Alan
I'm not seeing oxblood. I am seeing polished, remaining scratch and subsurface damage.

Ric Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Wow, $375+ seems pretty high for one of these. I don't see any oxblood and apparently the seller didn't either.
VaMarbles Posted yesterday at 09:33 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 09:33 AM I was watching these as well. The seller does a great job with pictures and accurate descriptions. I have a few to sell soon so I was happy for the results but I would have expected closer to $100-150 range.
davesnothere Posted yesterday at 05:05 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:05 PM I can't believe the sell through prices on these. I saw superman's go in these range. I purchased a jar full for ten bucks just this year.

I would say polished in my world. Just curious I'll give a good buffing on a worn mib and a shot of pure silicon for my collection. I never sell so I don't mind it.
et cetera
There is no oxblood here and this marble is not buffed/polished IMHO. Also, the seller is a highly respected member of the marble community who has written academic tutorials on how to detect buffed/polished marbles, as well as the scientific properties of oxblood glass. If it was buffed/polished he would recognize and acknowledge it I'm sure. He is meticulous with his inspection and descriptions of his marbles up for sale. This is a rare color combo for a Popeye ( how many of you have one?) - but I am surprised at the final hammer myself.

But but what is a frosted flea bite?? I think that is what looks odd in the picture. I have a Popeye patch that's close . Hanging onto that now haha

I think I have 2, lol. Look for them on EBay soon. 1 1
et cetera
VaMarbles - stunning pair! I'd sure have a hard time letting go of BOTH. Sell one -keep one. That would be my agenda. I am the type of collector that doesn't need mountains of dupes, just one fine as possible example of each type from every maker. Sort of a mini marble museum! I have a long and seemingly infinite way to go - which makes me happy and hungry for the hunt.
