Why so expensive ?

There is some Ox involved here Fire.

Pretty rare for a "Popeye".

This marble has been at the very least "Buffed"--image two shows it quite nicely (notice the sharp edges on the blow out).

This is one of the old ones from the Akro digs that were fixed years ago imho.

I appreciate all opinions and hope to see some more.

Marble—On!!

Doesn't buffing dull the edges?

I would say polished in my world.

Just curious I'll give a  good buffing on a worn mib and a shot of pure silicon for my collection.

I never sell so I don't mind it.

There is no oxblood here and this marble is not buffed/polished IMHO.   Also, the seller is a highly respected member of the marble community who has written academic tutorials on how to detect buffed/polished marbles, as well as the scientific properties of oxblood glass.    If it was buffed/polished he would recognize and acknowledge it I'm sure. He is meticulous with his inspection and descriptions of his marbles up for sale.  This is a rare color combo for a Popeye ( how many of you have one?) - but I am surprised at the final hammer myself.

I have no idea if it's be played with can't tell in a picture imo .

But but what is a frosted flea bite??

I think that is what looks odd in the picture.

I have a Popeye patch that's close . Hanging onto that now haha

I agree with everything you said about the seller.  One of the best on EBay!

I think I have 2, lol.  Look for them on EBay soon.

VaMarbles - stunning pair!  I'd sure have a hard time letting go of BOTH.  Sell one -keep one.  That would be my agenda. I am the type of collector that doesn't need mountains of dupes,  just one fine as possible example of each type from every maker.  Sort of a mini marble museum!  I have a long and seemingly infinite way to go - which makes me happy and hungry for the hunt.

OK ! This one has the wispy white ribbon, clear base glass and the red and blue ribbon. This marble is a disaster gone way wrong.? It was ID here as a Liberty Cork. What traits are missing that doesn’t stack up compare to the OP Cork to this one 🔥

Here’s the mistake I made but it was my choice to see what would happen. Trashed surface glass was brutal. So? I was asked if I had any marbles that I would like to have resin coated. Sounded kind of cool. But….they bailed and never “finished “ it out. Oh well 🔥
