I'llhavethat1
Nice example. A little sparse on the green compared to most 1
Ric
I'd be careful with this one. It looks like it might be from Sammy Hogue's AV run at JABO.
LevvyPoole
Definitely a marble on my wish list and I'll heed the warning @Ric if I ever think I've spotted one.

I would love to see some for sure. @Nantucketdink? Marble--On!! 1
Ric
@akroorka I have had groups in hand on a couple of occasions but I don't own any. The only reliable photo I could easily find is from JABO Land: There is quite a bit of variation in them. When the AV is thick, it's pretty easy to tell it's not an Alley - it's harder when the AV gets thinner. But FWIW, I have not seen many Alleys with as sparse of coverage or the degree of "chunkiness" that you see on some of Sammy's. Edited Sunday at 12:45 PM by Ric I inserted the word "many" in the last sentence because I have seen some Alleys with sparse coveage.

I just love this stuff--folks sharing the wisdom and experience. I think that the OP is a "Shimmering Spruce" however😁. One of the very few that intended on having AV in the green. davesnothere
@Ric great I have a beat up 1" SS always thought alley was the only one for this style. I'll post it up tomorrow . Always learning thanks!
Ric
There is little doubt that some of the white-based JABO examples, the sparser ones in particular, are mistaken for Alleys. Of course, this leads to a host of problems. I have heard varying stories about the number of the JABOs that were made. They might be less common than Spruces. Regardless, I am glad I had my Spruces before they were made.

If it's an inch, it's probably an Alley. AFAIK the JABOs were only made in 5/8" 1 1
marblemanvintagemarbles
If it holds any weight the collection this marble came with didnt have any jabos in it. It did have a lot of old alleys and other swirl companies.

On the other hand, I have seen enough of both types to know that some can look nearly identical. Because of this, there are certain examples for which I will not offer an ID opinion one way or the other without having the marble in hand. My main point is that when you see an example like this one it's unwise to simply assume it's an Alley.
I'llhavethat1
^agree. And in this thread I learned about the newer look-alikes.
marblemanvintagemarbles
I myself had no idea there was anything similar. Jabo really set out to make it hell identifying old marbles whenever they decided to start making marbles.
Nantucketdink
JABO made green aventurine on white marbles several times and in at least 5/8 and 3/4 sizes. The pattern in the original marble does not look JABO to me.
