COVRSWAP Posted yesterday at 02:21 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 02:21 PM Hi all, Any ideas on this clear marble? A y shaped crease on one side and a green taint to the marble. 34.4mm in diameter.   any ideas on production method and age? Assume not collectible as no colour?

Alan
Industrial sphere, not a marble.
akroorka
Industrial marbles/spheres were used to polish a variety of items that needed to be touched up and quite frankly, polished. This included many varieties of metal as well that needed a final round of polish to get to the final sales. This is a bigger one, I am familiar with the 7/8” or the ¾” ones and these were called “Railroad” marbles for some reason that I may have forgotten. There may have been an accident that spilled these on the tracks somewhere. Marble—On!!
Ric
This reminds me of one of the spheres that Corning used to use in fiberglass production - don't know if they still do. Whatever it is, it has no collectible value.
