  1. I think it's a very odd Type II Tiger Eye. I doubt it is truly opalescent. Sometimes they can look that way if the light shines through or reflects off some surface color.

@Fire1981 It's an Akro Moonie as far as I can tell.
  3. I think it's a slightly odd Akro.
  4. Happy to see it's not just me!

I agree with, Steph. The left looks a little slaggy too but I am not sure about that one.
  6. Nice Alleys, Dave. I think Ron named the Blue Sky, Blue Lady and Tater Bug, and Nola named the Sweet Baby Gray. As far as I recall, Bill and I didn't have anything to do with these particular names.

@Chad G. I think CAC's Moons are way less common than Akro's Moonies and that the earliest Moons were hand-gathered. I also think that no Moonies were hand-gathered and that there was a lot more variation in Moonies than Moons. Of course, this is just based on my own experience examining what I believe to be original boxes, and I think that some of the WBM boxes that are out there were back-filled or partially back-filled with the much easier to find Moonies, which is the cause of much confusion.

@Kimbernugs First, I like to refer to CAC's World's Best Moons as "Moons" and Akro's Moonies as "Moonies", it just helps to keep things straight in my head. Your marble looks more like a Moon to me - especially given the size, the sort of "granular" appearance, and the bluish tint showing best in the third pic.

I don't think all Flinties show the "fish-eye". And I am not sure I entirely agree with the graphic you posted, where did you get it?

I agree with Alley for the last one and it certainly is flamey. But whether it or not it qualifies as a full fledged Flame might depend on who is looking at at. I like the first one and am leaning slightly Ravenswood but it's pretty unusual and might be something else. The others are giving me Heaton vibes but I'll have to think about them some more too. I sure wish I could see the whole marble in each of your shots.
  11. I'm leaning Ravenswood on this one too.
  12. I'm on the fence between Alley and Ravenswood, but I'm leaning toward Alley.

    Akro?

This is sort of a tough one, and I could really go either way. I think it would be a little different for either maker. Darker blue, more coverage and brighter red in the patch than usual for Master, and more striation in the patch than usual for Akro, but seams that look quite a bit more Akro than Master, at least to me - pretty nice marble either way.

When it comes down to it, I think Akro's Moonies are just white Flinties, also packaged as Fire Opals.
  15. Crazy cool pattern on that Tiger Eye, Dave.
  16. Ha, my membership lapsed. I plan to re-up at the show. Historically, they have had one of the best newsletters going.
  17. I have been quite a few times and plan to be there next week too.
  18. @Joe2 Are you planning to go to the WVMCC Show?

    Vitro ?

Oh yeah, it's a Cat's Eye and from what I can see, it looks Asian to me.
  20. A lot of the response at a given wavelength depends on the fluorophore and other compounds in the glass that might quench it.

    Vitro ?

The reflections are making the structure of this one really hard to discern.
  22. I still want to see another seam . . .
