Some might say it's a helmet-style patch but Helmets are Vitros and they have a stripe. Here is a full team . . . Some are harder to find than others.

IMO, that looks like an amber Akro slag with a lot of "pocket-wear" and not much white. -
Master definitely made some like this but there are similar foreign ones too.

Wherever you want it to, there is no formal definition or cut-off point that I know of. I don't think it would even be possible to come up with one. All I would say is that if it is not one continuous "wire" it's not a wirepull. It is important to keep in mind that these are for the most part random swirls. You may be able to distinguish one company's from another's but there is still a tremendous amount of variation even within the swirls of a particular company. And often times, outliers from one company can look very much like another company's marbles. That is why there are a considerable number of WVSs that simply cannot be definitively identified, even though some people might state their opinion as fact.

Several companies made these slag-style swirls by the boxcar and they are tough to definitively ID. My first guess would be Champion but it wouldn't surprise me if another company made it. And the "pink" you see is most likely just from light playing off that purple. It is not a peach slag. My primary collection is original bags and the only way I can definitively ID many of these types is if they are in one. IMO, they are like a lot of other marbles - they can be really cool and they can look very nice in groups but unless there is something particularly striking about them they are only nominally collectible.

The first is a veneered Type III Tiger Eye and the second is a newer style All Red. They have both gone wild with bigger size.
-
Vitro is out and MK is a stretch too far, IMO. I think it is a particularly odd variation of a Sunset Rainbo.
-
That marble looks like it could easily be full of AV.
-
The first looks mostly JABO to me but may be foreign and the second is a Vacor of some type.

Master made a few different types I would refer to as game marbles (single color). Some were colored transparent glass and others were opaque. They also produced another type called "Cloudies" (my favorites) which are colored translucent marbles. Yours looks opaque and is Master or maybe Akro, but it's hard for me to ID it for sure, since I can't see the seam very well in your second pic. A straight on shot of that seam would likely resolve the issue.

@Meep I didn't mean to sound harsh. All that really matters is whether you like it or not. I would just encourage you to think about the difference between collecting marbles and accumulating them. Of course, whether you choose to do both, either or neither, is entirely up to you. 🙂

There is not much to see, seams aren't real visible so it's tough to tell - might be another Moss Agate, might be JABO, might be something else. It is what it is and it's not one worth worrying too much about - It's not a good example of anything, IMO.
-
I could see an Akro Moss Agate.
-
Couple of more game marbles, IMO. First might be Master the second is from a WVS company, I think.
-
Game marbles is my thinking - maybe Master, maybe not.

I think that is a Peltier Peerless Patch on a "muddy" base. Look for a Peltier Chocolate Cow in the Tuesday thread to see what Pelt's Chocolate base looks like - I posted one of Bill's not too long ago. Found it . . .

A wirepull should have one continuous filament/ribbon so you should only see two ends. I think a couple of the ones you've posted today could be wirepulls but it will be near impossible for anyone but you to know for sure, since the "wire" can dive and resurface numerous times and that is very difficult to see in photos. I could see the left one here being a wirepull but there is no way I can tell for sure from here.

I think this is the post Joe is referring to . . .

Pretty cool double ingot.

Master Made Marbles was the original Master (1931) and Master Glass came after a 1941 reorganization and move. The quality of the earlier ones is noticeably better than the later ones. The cat's Eyes are Master Glass and the nicest Sunbursts are Master Made. Beyond the the general quality and the fact that more recycled and cheaper glass was used in the Master Glass marbles, I think the structure is pretty much the same, but I'm sure Art will have more to say about it

I do think it's Akro but when people talk about "chocolate" they are usually referring to the base glass. Like Billy McCaleb's Chocolate Oxblood . . .

Cool, Joe. I like to have good examples of newer marbles too but I always worry about bulk collections like this, and boxes/tins in general, since it's so easy for the marbles to get mixed up. Speaking from experience, Mom sees marbles laying around on the floor and they all get thrown into the "marble box", regardless of where they came from. Having said that, I have no reason to believe the marbles you're showing aren't original to the tin. It would be nice to find one with the marbles still inside the poly-mesh bag the way they were originally packaged though, just to be sure. Also, I reccommend that you don't visit the website shown on the back of the tin unless you are prepared to intercept an automatic download purported to be from Microsoft. 🙂

Hey Dink, I know you're aware that the transparent orange and yellow combo is a recurrent JABO theme and the yellow base color varies pretty broadly. So I am wondering what makes you so confident that the last one isn't a JABO. What am I missing?
