  1. Some nice marbles posted this morning!
  2. They may well be Champion game marbles. It's no surprise that even single color game marbles often exhibit traits associated with the particular company that made them.
  3. @davesnothere Those are nice big ones! I don't think there is any real debate about who made these 1" marbles that Alox packaged. You can find similar 1" marbles in a bag with blue lettering rather than the the black lettering this one has. It's always tough to get a good image of the marbles inside of an old poly bag . . . big ones with good black filaments, like upper left in this bag, are harder to find, for sure.
  4. @William It looks like a Corn Husk to me - pretty distinctive sorta like a "patch".
  5. Nice marbles, Art, is that first one closer to a Melon Ball than a Clearie?
  6. and that ain't nothing . . . I will say that if it was my marble, I'd keep it!
  7. Yes, the term "slag" most often refers to simple marbles made with a transparent clear or colored base glass and white striping glass. Many companies made similar. Some have one or two distinct cut-off marks, or "seams", others like some Peltiers, have unique "feathering" patterns, etc. Some might be wholly hand -gathered and -rounded or transitional types, where they are hand-gatherd and machine-rounded, some old types are even cut from canes like old latticinos, and other hand-made German types.
  8. The left looks like a newer style Vitro All Red but the right one looks to be veneered on transparent, in which case, it would probably be a Type III Tiger Eye. If the right one is opaque, it might be a Type IV.
  9. I think it might be a cool Akro Slag.
  10. It might be one of Jackson's Marbles - I am leaning a little that way over a very nice JABO Classic.
  11. It looks like a Japanese transitional to me too, and I agree it may be Yasuda.
  12. I like this one and wish it was mint . . . The first and last shots are backlit.
  13. It has to be Thursday somewhere . . . 🙂 You all know that German handmade marbles aren't really my forte but I don't think I've seen one quite like this before and I have no idea what to call it. It makes me think of like "divided razor core" or something, but I'm pretty sure that's not actually a thing. 😄 I'll appreciate any help I can get! These are underwater photos, just because I found this one too interesting to throw into the landscaping pile years ago.
  14. It's Wednesday! I have had this marble for many years and have had many people try to convince me it was a Christensen, some of those people weren't Ron and Bill - who certainly knew better, they just really wanted this marble. Years later, I dug another at Pennsboro when I was digging there with them - you should have seen their faces and heard them both stammering when I eventually showed it to them - priceless. We jibed one another about it regularly for years - what a hoot! 😄
  15. @William That's a nice 40 ct bag of Five Star Brand Vitro Cat's Eyes there William. One of their earlier ones, I think. Just look at how rich the color in those marbles are compared to the later stuff they produced - they're so nice!
  16. A day late but, seriously, what are you going to do about it? 😁
  17. Crazy cool, it may be tough to get a definitive ID since it's so messy. But usually when I see something this drizzly, I'm thinking WV swirls, maybe Alley. Really nice white on it!
  18. It may be Anacortes Vitro - kinda messed up, but JABO would be my second guess.
  19. I think these boards came with Vitro marbles in that cool black and silver deco style box.
  20. That's a very nice board. If those marbles are 7/8" it's even better!
  21. I was actually sitting at the Amtrak station in Albuquerque when I sent that response. 😄
  22. No, it's not a pontil, just an imperfection on a wholly machine made marble.
  23. The color varies quite a bit with Ghosts. The coolest one I have is what I call a Super Ghost. They are essentially just basic St. Mary's Alleys made using base glass that had more than its fair share of clear.
