Does anyone have any thoughts on the yellow patch on bubbly clear (Vitro?) shown at the top of page 174 in Popular American Marbles? I always thought this was a Peltier until I noticed that pic - now I'm wondering . . .
Hey Bill . . . I'll sure let you see it - maybe even hold it - depending on my mood . . . and swimming in the river is what I was hoping to hear . . . I just hope you're not in your living room while you're doing it. Take good care, I'll be talking to you soon.
Here's a neat little swirl. It's pretty cool the way the structure of the three-color ribbon is maintained as it dives down into the base and snakes around inside . . .
It really is cool, Dani. I see all kinds of things on/in it with a loop - certainly some filaments that look like oxblood, but I don't really think it is - certainly an enigmatic little marble . . .
Please excuse the dirty marble and poor pics. This is a tough one to photograph. In normal room light it looks like a black cork on a red/orange base. But a closer look reveals a stripe of black/green/gold and browns with three complete twists on a dark red/orange transparent base, that looks a bit like a snake when backlit. I've never seen another quite like it. Does anyone know anything about this type?
O.K. That's what I thought too. So the question now is . . . which ones?
You KNOW I like those B&G's Buddy! And you got it . . . that marble's Texas-bound.
NOW, just imagine there's a mint 1 3/4" blue and green CAC diaper fold right . . .
here.
What got me thinking about it is marbles like those in posts #119 and #172. They really have a hand gathered-looking pattern on the side opposite the fold.
Buddy 'ol Buddy 'ol Pal . . . SORRY! While you are most certainly perceptive, you are most certainly NOT a woman!
Please excuse my buffoonery! Which one of those "fall cat's eyes" do you want - left or right?
And FYI: This is what I would have said had WINNIE actually written that . . . Because you are a very perceptive woman, Winnie. Why else? LOL.
Thanks Steph, I guess my question really is . . . Is "diaper fold" a more specific designation than "single seam"? For instance, perhaps only applicable to hand gathered marbles, or Christensen marbles, or . . .?
WINNIE, That marble you posted is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing it. I don't get to see too many of the German machine-mades. Do you know if they made single-seam striped -transparents or -opaques?
