    One more

I see what Art sees too but I am leaning Master on this one. Orange/green/white is a known Master color combo, the seams on this marble are not as refined as the Vacors i have seen, and I would expect more yellow on a Vacor Sunset - just my 2 cents.
  2. It's a good marble, for sure - thanks for showing it!

    Peltier Bo?

Nice 6-ribbon Rainbo, earlier (I think) and way less common than the similar 4-ribbon ones.
  4. I think some old-timers might refer to this type as a "Baseball" - just simple white-based Rainbos, as I recall.
  5. The box would be something to see. I don't think I have ever heard of Akro using the word "oxblood" in any literature or on any packaging. Have you ever seen it?
  6. Welcome to the Marble Connection, Montina! A marble club sounds like it could be a lot of fun. The only marble shooting club I know about is the Woods County Marble Club in West Virginia. You may want to check their Facebook page. I know the adults involved are good people and I am sure they would be willing to give you some tips. https://www.facebook.com/woodcountymarblesclub/
  7. I like your style, John -nice bit of research here.
  8. I agree with Master for the first one and, based mostly on colors, I'm guessing Vitro on the big one - they can get pretty wacky when they're large.
  9. It looks like a Cat's Eye to me too - maybe Marble King. Seems like your camera is having a tough time focusing on the marble. From what I can tell, you may be a little too close.
  10. Nice gift - still one of the best books out there IMO. As for the size, it wouldn't surprise me if Vacor made them in different size and 16 mm is a pretty common one, I think.
  11. Nice marbles, I'm still not sure what you're looking for but the first are Egg Yolk Oxbloods and the last is a Silver Oxblood, at least to me.
  12. My first thought is Vacor Old Fashioned.
  13. It's hard to see much detail in these pics but they look mostly like Peltier Rainbos to me. The first one looks a little different. How about some sharper pics of that one?
  14. I'm confused. Without providing any hints as to the ID, I'll just say that they're marbles, I guess. People who post in the ID section are usually looking for help with ID. What are you looking for?
  15. Hey Chuck, I hope all is well - long time no see! Chad's got it - a 1980s Champion Red Cloud according to Charlie Stutsman.
  16. The patent has nice illustrations and explanations of Alley’s shearing mechanism. It was filed on February 27, 1933 (Serial No. 658,752) and granted on March 5, 1935 (U.S. Pat. No. 1,993,235). 1935 Lawrence Glass Novelty Shearing Machine US Patent #1,993,235.pdf
  17. @shiroaiko I do not recognize the trademark. I am guessing "Brilliant" was just a common description for clay-foil marbles and was not associated with a specific company or brand. Regardless, Hopf & Hopf included bulk and packaged "Tonmärbel brilliant" on their 1953 price list. Here are the marbles from the poly-net bags I posted earlier. The large ones are about 15/16".
  18. Interesting, I think it's a German slag too - maybe a striped transparent gone awry?
  19. @shiroaiko I wonder if some of the "Brilliant Marbles" (boxes of clay marbles) shown in Stephanie's post here are the ones described on Hopf's stock/price list? I think there are also some Hopf wire-pulls in her thread.
  20. I think that's the gist of it. I have unlabelled poly-net bags (tubes) that are melted closed on one end and tied on the other that I once thought were Veiligglas and I'm now convinced they are Hopf's too. @Fire1981 posted some examples just like mine in another thread. @shiroaiko I have known one particular type of these marbles for quite a few years. It is the one with translucent gold/amber and white striping glass. On some of these, the striping glass has tiny bubbles associated with it, which makes it sparkle like gold. It's a very pretty effect. I have never known what they were until now but I found them intriguing enough to pick up a few at shows over the years - another mystery solved, thank you!
  21. @teajayo You know what I like TJ, that is picture perfect - beautiful!
  22. @shiroaiko This is very interesting - I appreciate your efforts! It is nice to learn more about these companies and their marbles. I was in serious need of an update on what is known about "foreign" machine-made marbles. I am very happy to be getting it from you!
