What Do You Think Of This One?
MarbleClueless replied to MarbleClueless's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thanks for all the input! I am very certain it isn't plastic. I thought it felt sorta like an agate. Truth be told, I really don't know if I could "feel" the difference if I was blindfolded....(but I think maybe I can).. The strands, faint as they may be..do seem to be a different color. Yes, the bubbles are elongated along the pattern of the swirl. Pictures one and two are the best I could capture it. The marble fluoresces greenish/yellow and very brightly at that. I tried to take a picture of that and failed David, I sold the bisque German doll because she scared me! I've never seen such a frightening doll. She had Alma written on her back. Her mouth was sort of agape and she had four really weird teeth. I looked around to see if I still had pictures of her but apparently I thought it necessary to purge those as well...I can't imagine giving that thing to a child! I had no idea they had roll-on antiperspirant in the 50s! Go figure! Since Alma is no longer with us, I thought I'd take a picture of her sisters that got to stay. Plus, I have attached a picture of the little box and its contents which the marble lived. Thank you very much!! Suzie -
The Aliens Are Here!
MarbleClueless replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hey! I was gonna say that! -
Greetings all! Please move this post to the ID section if appropriate. I found this marble mixed in a trunk from my Mom's. The contents of the trunk was circa 1890 - 1950s (give or take). There was some German Bisque dolls, Girl Scout memorialbia, Quilts, family bibles, a little of this and a little of that. This marble was in amoungst the things. Actually this was in a small jewlery box with (what certainly must be the origins of bobble-head) goose. At first glance, the 15/16" marble seems rather un-remarkable. The first thing I noticed was it didn't "feel" like glass. Plus, there is a flat spot that seemed as if it might be faceted. Then, I noticed it glows brightly under the black-light. When I back-lit the marble you can see a "swirl" inside with faint blishish lines and what seems to be (some stretched) bubbles. The center of the "flat" spot is the pole. The other pole does not have a flat area. I have never seen anything like it (not that I think I've seen it all by any means). It is hard to capture in pictures because it is a very subtle marble. So what do you think? Thanks for looking!! Suzie

Peltier Aqua Slags Wanted
MarbleClueless replied to jormibnut's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Art, Thanks for giving me an opportunity to poke around my various caches in search of an Aqua Peltier. My aqua selection isn't as abundant as other colors but I had a lot of fun looking and photographing these for you. If you are interested just let me know. Here is what I have: This first one isn't really a slag (see how I am) but it is gorgeous even if it is a rainbo (I think): This one does seem to fit the criteria: This one seems pale in comparison (but pretty all the same): If you wanted to go a little darker here is a great blue. I think the pink background I used made the pictures look a bit purplish: Let me know if you are interested. Any would be honored to be an addition to your box. Otherwise, thanks again for letting me play with my marbles. -
Steph....itsnot agate for sure! You are tooo funny!! It could be contemporary...never say never...I bought it at a flea market in a small town in Missouri. They didn't have but a few marbles and the others were vintage...so I just don't know....
-
I don't know orbboy but I wouldn't have a snobby marble.....eeek...that's not what they called it!! O MY.
-
I love this slag....it is a peach color. I had it on a pink cloth when I took the pictures and I think the pink maybe reflected through a tab. Any information about its origin is greatly appreciated!!

It's an epoxy/resin. They will be levitated for a good long time. I like the way they look like they are floating. Plus, how much they are magnified at different angles. These marbles had big chips that are no longer visible.

I seem to have issues getting rid of stufff...but trust me I come about it honest you should see mom & dad! So I plucked a couple from the "i have had a difficult life" basket and I did a little experiment (they had no other hope). I think it turned out kinda cool...if it's terribly tacky (as I feared it might) it hasn't sunk in yet....at any rate..something different (for me anyway...)

No need to waste your time over in Ozark. Dad lives in Nixa and he keeps a pretty close eye on what they have over there. Plus, he is a member of the good ole boys club (headquarters Nixa Sale Barn Cafe) so oftentimes he gets the inside skinny. So...location of the Taney County Indian Swirls might be disclosed for a few marble bribes tucked in with the "one color shy of a parrot" I can't wait to get my hands on..........

Hey Bubba1! Some great looking marbles you have listed. I think I'll have to bid on some of them. I noticed you are from Springfield! Are you the one that out bids Dad when I send him to auctions with marbles? I'm from Springfield originally. I live in Arizona now. Doesn't matter how much I love AZ or how long I've lived away, no matter what, Springfield is still home to me! Last week, Dad just bought a German Swirl, Contemporary Lutz, and a Grazing Cow Sulfide. I can hardly wait to see them. He use to go and buy me marbles but then being as addictive as they are, he buys marbles for himself. Last year in Taney County there was a flea market with a bunch of Indian Swirls I should have bought all of. Hope they are still there this year... Hope I win some of your marbles!! Suzie

I was playing sorting marbles yesterday. I put these in the "doesn't really matter I think they are great on my desk" container and thought I'd share. I love marbles!!

Eliciting Marble Information
MarbleClueless replied to MarbleClueless's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thank you all for the great information. I appreciate it a lot. Mission must have been accomplished because when I passed the info along the guy asked me if I would be interested in selling all of his marbles for a 50-50 split. Hmmm....that's not exactly what I had in mind....maybe I'll sell those I selected out, to myself, at the price I offered...then it would only be 1/2 price. Return the rest and call it a day......too bad I can't really do that..... THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
How Is It Pennsylvania

I should have wished for the money to buy them why I was doing my wishing.... -
Greetings, (please move to ID section if preferred) Over the weekend I visited a person that had marbles for sale on Craigs List. As far as I can tell, he seems to be spending his retirement as a Quasi "American Picker". He told me he had accumulated his collection over several years. It seems that would be true as he had a bunch of many different kinds. He mainly had common vintage but a few nice marbles, and some junk. He had 2 nice German swirls but they didn't seem to be extraordinary (granted I don't know the hand-made all that well). I made him a modest offer on a few I selected out. I have a feeling he was thinking they were worth a whole lot more (he had heard tales of a $1k sulfide). There was another person that was going to look at them this week so he wanted to see if they offered more etc etc. Of course, Its not uncommon to see some terrible junk sell at staggering prices at auctions around here so maybe he will get a lot better of an offer. ok..the moral of the story is I took pictures of two of his marbles and told him I'd try to find out about them. I want to follow up with him, if possible, to illustrate what a stand-up kinda person I am (even if he doesn't ever sell me his marbles). Truth be told I just like being a stand-up kinda person. Actually, I probably sparked the interest in the 1st marble because it perked my interest. I haven't seen one like it. I think it is aventurine but I'm not sure because this just doesn't look like anything I've seen before. Taking pictures was hard in this building (oversized garage) but one of them came out ok. The marble was about 3/4 inch and I'm fairly sure it was glass. The 2nd marble is probably about a 2" contemp. I couldn't really see that well (and was hoping the pics would but they don't) but I believe it was signed with maybe a butterfly mark??? It is difficult to pick out the mark because of the background of the marble (which I really can't say what is but like I said I don't see well)... So can you help educate me so I can really impress this guy and maybe buy a few marbles at a reasonable price (I already figure that's a "fat chance") Thank you very very very much!!!!!!!!!!!

New Marbles Listed As Vintage
MarbleClueless replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Yep, you got it.....I think you may need a space before the hyphen (dash) such as marbles -jabo -contemporary (but I'm not positive). Unfortunately, it will only filter out new-crap-damaged-broken if the seller uses those words in the description. I have been trying to develop a clarvoyant routine for years and still with no success -
Pen, please let me know if you go and how you make out. I'd love to come with!! Steph, thanks! A lot of time it seems my humor is too subtle. Oftentimes I think; if I have to tell people I'm funny I"m probably not.

New Marbles Listed As Vintage
MarbleClueless replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Catfish, The example I gave is how you omit the words: marbles -radioactive -uranium -knife -figurine -ax -ladybug -figurines -turtles -mosaic -pokeman You're example is correct. Here is how you set up other searches. (Marble, marbles) returns listing with either term Marble Marbles returns listing with both terms "marble marbles" returns listing with exact matches You can also add preferences, such as only listings ending in x hours by using the advanced search options. P.S. Don't forget to save your search so you can use it again......
