Burns and Gordon! That could have really worked well! Going to have to watch Harold and Maude again I know I liked it, but the memory's fuzzy. Is it time for another 'favorite movie(s) of all time' topic? Think we may have done it before, but it's been a while. ( :

This is a very cool piece of work! I don't remember seeing this before, although a similar one where you see the artist reflected in a sphere being held in one hand is a particular favorite of mine. The three different 'qualities' here are very interesting, although a little confusing. Not sure if I should think about them at length or just appreciate them for their own sake. ( :

Well I have to ask. Did a search for pfrtp, and apparently the 'bots' have already been here, since TMC was all that came up.

Thank you all for the kind comments. This shot's off-topic of course, but it got me wondering how many black and white marble photos have been posted here. Outside of old historical shots, I don't suppose the situation would come up too often. My gruesome Halloween shot (which not too many people seemed to like here) just had to be b+w, but I think that's the only one I've ever posted. There was a mineral sphere I tried to do a moody foggy shot of once, but that one didn't work out. I do have another in mind if I ever come across a piece of zebra skin! ( :

I have had maybe five baths in the last fifteen years. The situation isn't quite as bad as it sounds. I do have a cruddy little shower at home which is functional, but just not particularly enjoyable. So it was a big deal the other night when I had reason to stay overnight in a hotel. I was so excited about getting to soak in a hot tub that I decided to take a picture to commemorate the joyous occasion. The usually very hard-to-please people at my camera forum seemed to really like this photo, so I thought I'd post it here too. ( :

I just realized that it would be a good idea to add a little 'old fart' wisdom to my last post. Hey! You young people! The greatest gift I can give to you is to get you to believe that listening to what old people have to say is going to help you more than you can know! They've 'been around'! It only makes sense, doesn't it? Okay. So here goes. If you drink beer in Australia you'll never want to drink an American beer again. Also, bungee cords are way more dangerous than they appear! You should probably wear protective eye-wear every time you use them. But since you're not likely to do that, I can only tell you that you should never stretch them too tightly. And there's no reason to do so while trying to protect your vehicle from cold weather anyway.

Really neat. They sound like they have a definite plan, but they're versatile about achieving it.

I'd like to give a personal (and humble! ) opinion about 'thumbnails', since they were mentioned earlier. Some people here do a consistent good job with them. But most of the time for all practical purposes they're a pain in the butt for both poster and postee.

Darla, I don't know the actual weather facts, but I think your snow is heading my way tonight. (Maybe Steph will say if she saw it passing by her.) I just finished semi-covering my truck, and want to mention something for other people who don't have a car port or garage. (This does not apply to 'godown', who can stop reading now.) A tarp and bungee cords can be a worthwhile investment! The tarp only needs to be big enough that you put it on your roof and it hangs down enough to cover all your glass. If you go bigger it'll be more expensive and harder to slide off your car. It's a real pleasure to not have to chip ice off your windshield in the morning, and when you pull the tarp off on a freezing 6:00 A.M. it makes you feel like a really smart son of a so and so. ( :

Nice shot! Like Steph, the word 'pretty' came to mind, and it got me wondering. It sure looks like this lady bird went a little beyond 'functional'. Is this maybe some sort of camouflage, or do some mothers-to-be actually want their nests to be 'attractive'?

Dang! That's just a little too cool, isn't it? Mibstified's photo is cool too. Had to save it to get a good full-screen vertical look. Scrolling through it in 'forum format' didn't give the full effect! ( :

Thanks, Lloyd, and thanks to Darla for the marble! It's always been a favorite. ( :

Same thing for Galen's marble. What is it? It's really outrageous!

I'm a little slow (no comments!) in saying that the Japanese Mushroom is very nice. ( :

I'm going to have to be brutally honest here. I have never liked the Pillsbury Doughboy, in spite of my natural tendency to be a sentimental old fool. Whenever I see him I want to find the nearest rolling-pin and 'flatten' him. So I was pretty impressed with this recent commercial where he gets embarrassed. He and his crescent rolls have shown up at a good-sized family's holiday dinner. The hostess announces that they all have a special present for him. Pants! (In the background you can hear elderly relatives making comments like "It's about time!")

For Bob's Marbles-In-Modern-Culture Files
kbobam replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
My first response to 'Marble Master' was "Modern? Seems like an understatement!" But then I realized what you meant. ( : So the marbles in this ad 'represent' valued employees. Therefore the people involved in putting this together must at some level consider marbles to be something of value. They certainly wouldn't use something 'worthless' here. I'm going to continue to stand by my two-line declaration. Everyone likes marbles. Some people just don't realize it! -
You have 34 minutes to go! Get back to work!

I have to agree with both of you. Posted it right after I saw it, and at that point all I was thinking was 'How outrageous! Never seen that before!' But I did feel sort of 'conflicted' a little later. It's kind of awful. And although anyone who wants to buy me a lobster dinner complete with melted butter, lemon, and bib is automatically my newest best friend, I don't think I could be the guy who dropped my crustacean cousin into the boiling water. Yours hypocritically, Bob ( :

When I was younger I always enjoyed these 'claw' machines. Usually it was a case of trying to win a 'stuffed animal' for a girl. Just learned from a television show that in our most north-east United States state of Maine, they have machines where you can win a lobster!

Nice! Both well 'written' and 'put'!
