    Akro?

The more I look at it, the more I like it. And the more I see the spiral. I suppose it could be Akro, although it`s unlike any one I`ve ever seen. Not that I`ve seen all of them! I have seen - and have - a couple of very fat corks in transparent colorless glass. They seem to be scarce. Maybe this is one of them that went a little bit crazy . . .
  2. Don`t tell me you don`t see one . . . .
  3. A blue tadpole-with-a-hole-in-its head marble?

    Akro?

I was wondering the same thing -
  5. This looks like the sprayed type. I know Vacor made some, and a few other companies experimented with iridescence, but not sure they ever produced any in large numbers. And no, don`t put them in a fish tank!

    Akro?

From the side, augers look like a twisted central column. From the poles the center is closed, instead of open, like a corkscrew`s poles would be. I do agree that the white looks kinda like a spiral. But I haven`t seen an Akro corkscrew with this fat, kind of ragged, interior glass. So it`s a mystery to me. Maybe somebody else will recognize it?

    Akro?

No clue. Why do you think Akro?

    Big Slag

Yep. Melted pontil, dark color = Navarre, or one of the other companies Leighton worked at - although I would exclude Barberton because of the color. Barberton used lighter, more transparent base glass, sometimes lime or pale green,
  9. Basically I agree with Chad G. That said, The Joseph Coats that I have don`t have this kind of ribbon structure - instead, each color is a distinct ribbon with no blending or mixing. The ribbon structure of the OP is more like that of an Onionskin. I suppose you could look at it either way, depending on what definitions you use. In any case, it`s a very nice one!
  10. The blue-yellow-gray swirl on the left is`nt the one Fire was referring to - that one is above the one you pictured = it`s just above the top row in the middle, behind what looks like a transparent colorless marble with dark ribbons . . .
  11. Yes! When I read this post of yours, I went back to several threads and found that one you mentioned. It was probably prompted by recent Akro Sparkler discussions about the number of colors required for it to be a sparkler, would be my guess. Anyhow, it set off what turned out to be an informative thread, which is great! I`m glad to hear that art has played a major role in your life - I wish more people were able to say that. We`d probably all get along better!
  12. I struggle with patches, period (except for really weird PPPs). Therefore, I usually avoid them! Except when I see a really striking one, then I buy it, not really caring who made it!

    JUST FOR FUN

Uhhhh . . . butter mold? But then what are the notches on either side for? And how would you get it out? Gravy boat?
  14. Can I add a Lightning Strike and a guinea (I have pairs of half-guineas, one pair for each of the three main base colors, `cause that`s all I could probably ever afford) to my list? As Ron said - how big is the magic lamp? If it`s real big, I want an original box of guineas, and a set of floral chinas like Hansel has.
  15. And thanks for bringing the whole subject up, Fire -
  16. Yes, schmoozer! Casing would produce the illusion of a blend - thanks for bringing that up.
  17. Wow. I did not know that. Thanks Fire!
  18. Thank you Ron! And yep gray is a color too! I do acknowledge why many marble collectors don`t count white; I see it as a kind of shorthand. An Akro cork with, say, a two-color spiral on a white base glass is considered a two-color cork = not counting the white. In cases like that, I get it, and accept that vocabulary as being peculiar to marble collectors. But please don`t say (or even think!) that white is not a color! Or black. Or gray. Or you might set off the artists and art historians among us again!

    Rookie here

Oh yea, I forgot - welcome!
  20. I bet that`s it. How green snuck in there. I remember being really puzzled when some people started saying "cyan" slags instead of aqua or turquoise, and then found out it was, basically, an electronic color, like you say, in TVs or computers. I`m glad that trend seems to have been short-lived. Or at least I haven`t noticed it since I`ve been back. Thanks, Steph - I knew I could count on you!

    Rookie here

They usually sign them on one of the poles, usually just initials. Some, like Steve Maslach, don`t sign their marbles. In your top picture the latticino swirl could be either Jody Fine or Steve Maslach, but leaning to Fine. The black & white one next to it has some resemblance to a Doug Ferguson one I have, but i don`t know for sure. Mine is called "Zebra Bubbles," and obviously has bubbles, placed at regular intervals. At some point our specialist in contemporary marbles, Alan, will stop by. He`ll know - and if he doesn`t, then nobody will!
