  1. I think the notion that Heroes were 1920's marbles is a mistaken theory. It is one of the things which has or should have fallen by the wayside as we have learned more in the past couple of decades. The first appearance I can recall of the Hero and Unique names in advertising dates to the 1950's with Master's purchase of the Akro assets. And the patch marbles that we think of as Heroes and Uniques do not match Akro's inventory from the 1920's. Akro's earliest patches that I know of from the advertising were the 1930's patches: Moss Agates, Royals, Tri-Color Agates.

    Akro?

    What he said
  3. First thought "West Virginia swirl" but since I am having trouble figuring out which part is base and which part is ribbon, I am vaguely considering the possibility of it being a slag.
  4. Wow, the ladies made some pretty marbles.
  5. Frog legs were my final foray into trying unfamiliar kinds of meat. It wasn't the taste which turned me off. It was the fact that I could feel every single individual muscle and couldn't forget I was eating a small animal's leg. If I were in Asia, I know I'd at least be willing to taste new things. But what are the odds I'll ever be in Asia? My bucket list is very short. The only other foreign country I'm hoping still to make it to is Canada.
  6. The pink is pretty at least. The metal-mingled chunk is still pretty cool. It had my mind soaring with thoughts of meteorites until I noticed I had not yet read the post from Thursday night and realized that it's likely industrial. Though wouldn't it be awesome if it turned out to be natural ....
  7. It does look like a corkscrew, but I suspect Vacor. Perhaps I'm wrong. Look closely at the cutlines.
  8. Tequila is the worst thing I've had to drink. Wouldn't make it to the worm.

    MK??

Also, it's a modern marble and not too hard to come by though that's a somewhat unusual positioning of the vanes.
  10. The cutlines keep me in the Imperial camp.
  11. Yeah, maybe a close-up would help ... or a magnifying glass on your end. I'm still thinking as-mades on the white bits. Would take more detail to change what my eye thinks it's seeing.
  12. I can't swear not Master, but my first thought was Asian because of the texture, the little snowflakes near the surface, and that pinched cut mark.
  13. It's complicated. He could be plenty nice. He ended his shock-jock website and reached out to some of the people that he had hurt the worst with the insults there. For example, he apologized to Edna Eaton and as far as I know she felt he was sincere and accepted the apology. Life dealt him some serious blows in his later years and I think he handled them with humility and dignity.
  14. The Bogard version is more of a cats eye than a swirl.
  15. Thanks. As I suspected -- many Japanese marble makers. So Yasuda was one of the largest. But I'm not yet satisfied with everything being called Yasuda. I will keep reading.
