Dani, fantastic silver surfer so it is and those babies are really tough ones to find, seen very few. I would deffinitly add another one to its brother here, great post!! Clyde and i talked some the other day and discussed this specific marble and IF it were on a clear transparent base with a touch of white it probably could be a transparent zebra, however the silver surfer is on a pelt transparent greenish base which is deffinitly different. We discussed another one similiar to the silver surfer but it has an additional blue adventurine along with the black av on it on a transparent clear base and also may have brown av in it to. I have kinda named them the black universe however names may stir up quite a rukus on the boards. I have not ever heard anyone have a name for the later. Clyde and i discussed trying to have a common name for pelts the same from the west coast to the east coast, kinda like the blue phantom, wanna keep the same name everywhere, lot less confusing. What does the board members think???? Chuck G

Clyde T. is pretty much on and sometimes the names of marbles range a little different between the west coast and here in the midwest. Clydes description is right and we all should try to keep the names the same, so discussing it resolves the quandery and we say (its a blue panther). I do know that the name game is very discussable with individuals however if it is the same everywhere it should be that. Now as dealer/collector or collector/dealer we all have names for them this really helps the market for sales. Lets say i looked for ONE certain marble and have looked thru thousands of marbles to find it and spread the word how difficult is was to find and then others start looking for it and they do the same, one could say it was pretty rare then. Discussing it and sparking that interest is where the (car is driven)and gets others to look for the little orbs of art work. The blue and black peltiers are on the harder side of the field to find, especially the near mint range ones. I have seen Clydes quality pelts and what he discusses is well founded and along with that he is a great friend to. Chuck G

Craig i can add a lot to this thread if you like and give you some thoughts and insight towards these types in my opinion and what i have found in all the years of collecting pelts. Steph had it right on on the (BLACK PANTHER) and the photo of it. I can dig really deep into this thread later if you like. Chuck G

Decatur Marble Show?
Chuck G replied to FISHSLAYERMARRBLEGRIFF's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hey Art, thank you for posting the info for me. I appologize about that, because i thought thru the web everyone knew when it was. Art has is correct and i might want to add a couple of hi-lights to it. On thursday March the 31st we will be having a small mini-talk lecture show and tell on akro pigtails and multi-color augers and also hybrid popeyes, everyone should really enjoy this, it should commence around 8pm or after depending on sales in the rooms. Now friday late, also there will be another show and tell on PELTIERS from Ottawa Illinois. We will be discussing as many aspects of peltiers we can and may last quite awhile. I love doing sessions like this because of peltier being in Illinois and quite a few great guests from that area will attend. There should and be quite a varied examples of almost every marble that peltier made that everyone can see. If you all want to attend i encourage you to get your reservations in at the hotel pretty quick because i do expect a very good turn out this spring. I am looking forward to seeing all my good friends fairly soon. Contact me if you have anymore questions. -
Hey John, found encouragment on the same boat to, thank you. Chuck G

Hey Rich, its fantastic to have someone on the same boat that i travel on.

Hey you ole sea dog you are right!!! All i care about is promoting this wonderful hobby with information crucial to the advancement of marble collecting. Opening the minds of nice people to look beyond the main stream into a more understanding and breakdown of great beautiful piece of art work is my goal and nothing else. For those who know me, know this!! Oh yes i do want to see your salamander, sea dog!!!

Hey Nancy, great photos of the salamanders and all i was wanting to do is to open up everyones mind to the great possibilities that peltier had produced. I DO NOT intend to create a controversial disagreement between members because these types of boards is where we ALL LEARN including ME. I named it the salamander because if you look at Nancys photos i think it fits well. Its a catchy name and now that it has kicked around on the boards more or less everyone likes it. In my 38 years of collecting a name or two here and there does not hurt a thing, especially if it fits and brings the great excitment towards a specific marble. After all we drive the market with new information being put out there and the desires for those who seek great pieces to add to their collection. These are a few thoughts that i wanted to share!!!!

Great job members, keep the nice photos coming as well as your comments and insights on this pelt. This is how we all learn from newly found marbles. The salamander could possibly be a lone wolf (experimental) or a run. In my rarer pelt collection i love having two of the same run to prove it was a run however once in awhile i stumble onto one lone wolf pelt that is looking for a mate. In time they may SHOW UP and as we keep threads like this going forward!!! Ya gotta love it!!!

Hey people, KUDOS for those who posted some great photos of some great pelt marbles. Threads like this is where we all learn and differenciate between different types and runs they produced. I even learn from this and apply it to the future seeking of some more quality pelts to add to the collection. Thanks everyone-Chuck G

Ron, beautifully said and yes, as the NEW info comes out we ALL have to take that in consideration and go with the flow when its all facts documentated and found. I want to add this one to the group as a coral type to and its pelt. Guy Gregg dug and found one under the foundation at Ottowa which i own now and it looks similiar to the other marble makers corals.

Hey Steve, you ole sea dog, some of them LOOK really familiar, nice group and so is everyone elses, good job people!!

Hey members, i spent the afternoon with another pelt guru and we dismanteled this pretty neat marble. Our discussion on this was this as follows. It has a transparent clear base as well as five distinct colors in it that can be actually seperated into green, blue, white, red and orange and as we found that there were no blends. Here is what i would like to do with this pelt which very possibly could be a multi-colored swirl but went into the nlr line. I want to see a photo of the same color combo in the swirl line that pelt made. In my opinion and theory that the same color multi-colored swirls were turned into nlrs sometime or visa versa. Love the discussions and thats where we learn more.

Hey members, great bunch of pelts for sure from everyone. Very nice examples so they are. Oh yes Charles i see a few doubles that would look great with mine, wanna share??? Chuck

Hey members, the salamander has either a transparent clear or light green base but hard to tell which because of the closeness of the ribbons and the difusion of the opaque green. Hard to tell from the small windows. I will try to get a few shots in the sun later, still playing with my camera. I want someone to post a photo of the same color combo in the swirl type to help prove a theory of mine. I will touch bases with this theory later if i see a photo of the swirl.

Hey members, see what you think of this new pelt that i purchased from a very good friend of mine. Please let me know what you think and some feedback and discussion on it, named it the salamander, what do you think?

Hey Steph, just wanted to compliment you on your study hall first. You have done a fine job on it and its really informative for all who delv into marbles. I didnt realize it until i got to reading a lot in it this morning. You can move this thread if you like to the name game that you have already have a article on. Going into 38 years of collecting the name of a marble is really a reality now instead of just saying its akro, vitro, or say pelt. Its real easy to say that but if you tack a name to it and that name being a color combo description makes it even more sought after. Years ago saying it was just a maker of a marble was fine but now naming them is where its at for this main reason, it sells a marble and for those who want to make a dollar or so thats great. We as collector/dealers or dealer/collectors its again all about the money. Collecting marbles has become a business now in one sense and of course who drives that market. Adding a name or two here and there hurts nothing and makes the attractivness of that specific name a lot more sought after for the collector. I have myself named a few of them and so has friends of mine and when you attend a show this information floats all around and gets the interst up on them. So what if a marble has a descriptive name its about making money, RIGHT!!!!

Hey members, gotta put a dig into this topic for sure. Being the show director and sponser of the shows here in Decatur Illinois i have to add to those excellent comments from the members above. First, you will find some of the best people and FRIENDS at the shows you attend. Second, you will find invaluable NEW information discussed at the shows on any aspect of collecting from very rare marbles to book information. Third, in my opinion i have added some of the best pieces to my collection and they have came from the shows. Fourth, the prices you will find very flexable and pretty easy to deal on. Now dont get me wrong on the e-bay deal however there are still some deals to be had on there to, and Alans site is very good out of all of them. His excellence preceeds him dealing with marbles. I have tried really hard to make the shows here the most informative on the learning aspect of it on doing mini-talks show and tell in the afternoons the two nights before the show for everyone. They all love it and it makes the sales much better, so if you can go to the shows all you can, just my opinion!!!!

Hey members if you all will allow me to make a comment or two on this matter you have been talking about. There have been some really good comments and insights to this subject. As a very long time collector some years back i heard all about the exotics and what they were and which maker done them. With some very good conversation with fellow collector/dealers and vise versa. I weighed all the very good information and in my opinion i stayed away from purchasing any of them, that was just me. The term exotics is a great term and very easily be used for rare CACs. I can kinda go with that term for them. I heard a lot of stories on them, some good and some bad. With CACS production color palat, exoctics is a good overall description of them. One just might even say to that (please dont beat me on this) that some of the Jabos could even fall into that classification. Now for the PELTIER citruses being called that in my opinion NO and my reasons i can show you almost every aspect of most citrus types you want to see in my collection. I just dont feel that peltier made a marble that would fall into an exotic group however they fell into the very rare group. Exoctic is a term a lot of us like to use but its just a descriptive term to make it a more attractive selling point. I guess to each his or her use of the English langusage!!!
