Northeast Arkansas Marble Show Update
Chuck G replied to drgg's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
It looks like the first Arkansas show is going forward enthuasticly and looking forward to a great time down there. With all the feedback it looks real positive. Cant wait!!! Chuck G-- -
Bocci, gotta chime in on this one. This is my opinion after evaluating the photos real closely. I feel that the photo you posted is a pelt in my opinion. The color palet and the base is pelt colors to me. The one seam is hard to tell because, yes i do agree it looks MK, however i have found pelts the same way. If the color patches on both ends are the same i feel its pelt. I have not found a colored transparent base this color in MK either. Discussing every aspect thourghly of a marble is where we all learn from each other to continue the hobby. We all must remember in a time perspective the hobby is still in its early stages and the more that is learned the better the hobby will become. Chuck G--

Mark, i think it was a little however some people might have looked at it in a different light pertaining to a new location and the cost of the hotel and the gas and food and so on. I do know when you attend these shows and want to sell marbles you have to weigh in all those factors and decide if the sales will meet the expensis. Those who did not make it missed a fantastic time and what makes it successful are the people and the friends that you dont get to see but maybe once a year. Sometimes the word does not get out but we being in this family need to help put out the info on all these shows as well as the new ones starting up. This drives the hobby forward and gives a lot of great people pleasure in their hobby. It sure does for me. Try to get a close up of the "Blue Deere" later. Chuck G--

Yes, and here is a quick summerization of the show from my perspective. I personnally thought that Gary and Judy Huxford done a fantastic job on putting this togather in a new location and the activities and flow went very very well. Now a few may dissagree on this but being a show director and sponser here i look at the whole picture. A big Kudos to Gary and Judy from me. There were somewhere around 80 plus rooms on four floors of the hotel with many marbles and related things to marbles to purchase. Buying prices were resonable reflecting back 6 years ago, i thought they were a little soft and some really good buys were found. The flow of marble looking and buying was great with everyone excited on finding a good thing to add to their collections. I personnally met some new people myself and was very pleased to have some new added friends in this hobby. The banquet went very well with anticipated 38 reservations for it and ended up with 68 from what i was told and Steve Sturtz done a fine job on his presentation to the group. The show on saturday went quite well also from what i was told but i left a bit early after setting a show table up for my good friend. The conference room was full of dealers and there were at least 15 states represented at the show. The sales for marbles went good for some and soft for others. For the summization on my part, i feel it went very well and cant wait till next year for another one. Everyone had a great time in the newer hotel. I will add a photo of some of the marbles i found up there. Chuck G--

Ric, a very nice pelt for sure, gotta love the metallics!! These types are not that easy to find and when i see them i grab them if possible. They enhance a collection tremendously. Now can anyone explain the reasoning behind, why peltier produced a few of these? Was it in the process or color formula or poaaibly added foriegn materials and so on and so forth? I am curious towards what some of the members have to say about this? Chuck G--

Hi members, just a reminder of our show here in Decatur Illinois next weekend and sure hope some of the members can make it. I think its going to be a real fun time. I will be dedicating the show to Art Jones and Alan Basinet and will set a table aside at the show on saturday in memory of them. Come and join us. Chuck G--

I will be dedicating our spring marble show here in Decatur Illinois to Art Jones and Marblealan and will keep a table set aside in memory of them. It saddens us to loose these two great men. They have been two major players who added to the collecting world of marbles, they will be missed. Chuck G-- -
I just may have to get involved in this discussion a little. I can attest that at least 20 plus years ago i found my first one exactly like the ones for sale on e-bay. Now the origon of these i haven not figured out yet. Over all the years of collecting and all the marbles i have seen i have kept everyone that i have found and only gave one or two away so far. Still have at least five left. In my opinion and just a wild guess at them, possibly a limited run of a vitro of some sort because of the purpilish/pinkinsh/whitish patch on them. Where the cobolt transparent blue base came from in them is a guess? In my opinion i will say Vitro and or foriegn of some sort. Chuck G--

I've Never Heard Of This, Have You?
Chuck G replied to VTAndrea's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Andrea, i was watching this one to and had my suspecions about it so i didnt try to go for it, just didnt look right to me. I can varify that pelt did make a transparent clear base liberty in a swirl type as well as a ribbon type. I do miss Guy Gregg and his great marbles he used to show me all the time. I continue to carry his legacy on with the Decatur Illinois shows here for him and will continue to do two of them a year as long as my health will allow. You can PM me anytime and i will tell you more about this rare type you are talking about. Chuck G-- -
Hi Tony, WELCOME to the board and you will find some very interesting feedback on the boards and you will deffinitly learn a lot about the "Peltiers" for sure. The photos are great but sometimes its hard to tell on some of the marbles posted. I have been doing this hobby for 38 years now and the hobby keeps going forward and always picking up new collectors all the time and where else can you continue to learn outsdie of the books. If there are any marble shows close to you, thats another aspect to think about and learn even more information. I can honestly say that i learn quite a few things at the shows every time i do one here or travel to one thats happening. I like the pelts also myself and i tell you that its a real job trying to get a variety of them togather. WELCOME Chuck G--

Steve, like they said, could very well be Rays sulphides because they look real sililiar to the ones i have but mine are bigger. I have two and one is the crucifix cross and the other is a commemorative suplhide that Ray done for Guy Gregg when he was still with us which has his initials in it G.G. Ray has done some fantastic works of art. Chuck G--

W O W!!! Winnie, very nice handmade and one can see where the hobby is going from the antique to the machine mades. What a great example and we can all see the relationship between them. I never thought much on this till you brought this out, very good thread, thanks Chuck G--

Catfish, any pelts that have av in them are still a bit better than the non-av ones. They will bring a tad higher premium for the selling end of it. Chuck G--

Hi Jill, glad to see you brought this back up for discussion. Remember photos are great but sometimes inspections (in hand) are much better. Here is a small list of the pelt black and blue color combos you might want to remember. Clyde might want to chime in on this one to. First is the pelt peerless one and its the blue base with the black patch possibly containing av. Everyone calls them the bruisers which is cool. The brusiers may be or have an opaque black base or a colored dark transparent base. I have two types of these and the other is on a sky blue base with a black patch. Now you have the blue panther like the photo and its the hardest to find of all of them in the nlr pattern. Now the last one is the blue/gray base rainbo that has what looks like black ribbons but may fool you and if you take a strong light you will find its possibly a dark green ribbons, now not saying it could be black also. I have these types with two ribbons three ribbons and four ribbons, like the very first photo shown. Clyde, may want to add some to this also. Love the pelts!!! Chuck G--
