Canton Marble Show This Week
aleecee replied to Killermarbles's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I had these..called em Click Clacks...if you were not very precise when attempting to "clack" them, the large acrylic ball would slam you on the forearm...we all had bruises; looked like a bunch of abused kids! -
I visited the Anne Frank house this past summer. It was a very moving experience.

My husband is a high school teacher...his students do not know how to tell time with an analog clock!
-
I see two with large seams; they remind me of an old "superball" which is rubber. I run into those at auction sometimes mixed in with marbles and they can get very hard and brittle feeling....still would know they were not glass. The very top one looks like glass...the others????

Thanks Kabobam...I moved here in 81' for my first job out of college and have been here since! The area has really grown over the years; used to be pretty rural, but not anymore.
-
My husband measured them with the calipers and then we put them through the hole template...they are 1/2", perhaps a tad more, if you measure them from pontil to pontil vs from side to side..those hand mades are not exactly round!
-
I forgot to mention the pee wee peppermints! One is near perfect the other has a large-ish but shallow chip; they both have a wet looking surface overall.

Hubby and I hit a few sales this weekend and found some nice marbles. The busted up 3/4" bricks break my heart! Only got one decent one and it's the smallest..figures! Two nice small germans in good shape, 2 pretty wet looking slags, 1 common white based cork, and a really gorgeous Alley...the find of the day! 21/32nds, really great shape and beautiful shade variations in both the green and the creamy yellow...small price tag too...24.00. There were about 20 or so more marbles but they were so beat up..not even good enough for my "auction jars" (what I don't keep I save up then take to a local sale to recoup a bit of $). The weather here was nice and we had a great day driving around to several sales...waiting on 4-6" overnight and into tomorrow...darn that Groundhog

Those marbles look esp nice grouped together,,

I found these a few years ago in a small antique shop. They were only a few dollars each. The small ones are pee wee sized and the yellowish one is 3/4 ".
-
The blue one is nice...too bad it's not in better shape!

Mine is also 14 yr old..beautiful little tortoise shell named Lucy. Lucy has been really different since Lacy died (no I did not pick that name..Lacy was my Mom's and when she died we took her in). She meows tons (was really quiet prior and only gave a little squeak now and then) and seems much more needy..always wants to be ON you! I think she is lonely. We do not however want another cat. As much as we have loved our many cats over the years, we are ready to not have to worry about them and find sitters whenever we want to go away. Lucy got really sick once right before a long vacation and we were phoning the vet daily from overseas!

Actually, it is considered a "half helmet" as the stripe is not down the middle, but off to the side...details, details!

I have just had a ton of fun looking back at all the animal posts, videos and pix...what a hoot! Cats rule! I had 2 , down to just one now.

Stefan, You must be a fan of Vitro marbles! The white/red/purple is a Vito Tri-lite and the other one is a Vitro helmet. The tri lites can be quite colorful and pretty. My husband is a helmet fan too..!

Went to an auction last weekend and got some jars pretty cheap. Nothing too great...I like the victory with the 2 colors on top, the Pelt sunset is very clear and minty and there are a few nice vitros. I like the whitey...only have a few of those. Auction pickin's this weekend don't look too hot either . I may be nuts, but I keep looking for that awesome find when I least expect it!

Hi Kevin, Welcome to the site. I have been a collector for MANY years (that means I am older too!) and am new to this site as well.

Great looking stuff!

I just bought 6 euro sparklers..all in near mint condition, in sizes from 5/8ths to about 13/16ths for 60 bucks. They are valuable to folks who love them and although not as vivid in color as Akro sparklers, there is something about them that I just love!

Good posts and information..thanks everyone!

Making Marbles With The Grandkids This Weekend
aleecee replied to Greatmacscott's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
One of my favorite marbles was made by my son at a crayola factory tour when he was about 4. Don't know if they still make this stuff or not, but they used to sell kits with this white, moldable foam, that you would use markers on, then form into shapes and it would harden, so you would end up with your own sculpture, more or less! Many of the colors have faded (my son is 27!) but it still holds a special place in the marble cabinet! FYI...HE has no recollection of this event, so when I get all gushy over his "marble' that he made especially for Mom, he just rolls his eyes! -
We all try to id marbles by size, color, pattern, glass type etc. We often look at opaque bases vs veneered marbles, swirls where the colors lay on the top vs dive down into the marble etc. I think by cracking a few open, it answers some of those types of questions....hope that helps! Alyce

I have been primarily a handmade collector and have never had a black core or that divided core inside a latticinio core. That blue looks almost jelly-like
