  1. So this marble is interesting and proves the proposition that even extremely common mibs like Vitro's Conquerors can come in unusually marked variant/weirdo-types provided you look for them. This one is not just your ordinary Conqueror either: This appears to a blue one (really textured), and has a bold chalkie 'V' to boot! This for a small bag of 20 for two bucks earlier today! There were other green based ones with chalk in the lot too...this one, the best marked. John
  2. Thanks! It was hard to make out in the dark antique mall...very small. Just a little zip bag with a mix of 20 marbles, mostly common but earlier, for 2 bucks! Swing over to the vitro site for the other gem from that small lot.
  3. Just found this today for 0.10 cents! John
  4. Yes. The first one you mentioned Jerry, manganese or Mn for short, is that one that gives oranges and reds. John
  5. Cool pattern on this one. Wavy.
  6. Another for examination, another big shooter. John
  7. I think this is the only one I've found this dark...have some with colored bases, but very much lighter. Glad you could use the brain-file!
  8. I like that lighting effect you have there on that oxblood. Nice.
  9. No need to diverge at all from the corks, but I'm going to anyway.
  10. Outstanding! That's the run of Snakes/Onyx we've been waiting for. Some really fine examples certainly, and excellent shots too. I have the sibling of that orange one you remarked about on page 7. The darker orange tan areas on my specimen are AV. I have to get shots of mine and post too. Only found type once. John
  11. Oh.... the poisonous thoughts I have for all of this.
  12. Another glossy Cairo (sorry, the left and center are just different orientations, much of the other bit is white). John
  13. A nice AV Ruby Bee. Deep transparent red with AV, over yellow...this is my understanding of Red vs Ruby, Bees. John
  14. That run of Pelts on this page sure was something! I'd call that a Citrus Tree for sure. That poison bee was a new one for me...I feel empty without one!
  15. I like Akro for this one too. It has the look, but not the colors of we call Popeye patch marbles. I'll see if I can dig out an example that structurally looks very similar. John
  16. So many great examples...I wouldn't know where to start. Here is some more green.
  17. Sure! I get it! This one.....an onyx (sub-category) too?
  18. One of my favorite Pelts, a Bloody Mary Tracer....on that dishwater grey that seem prone to those open sore bubble caves...like in this example. I hope this one has enough red glass to qualify! John
  19. Off the map...and 5/8ths too. Hard to believe!
  20. I'm afraid I might aspirate one or both when handling them. I have not an idea how not to lose these eventually!
  21. It isn't splitting hairs....it's important marble work! I would think it would be close to the onyx group (and Cardinal Reds)...the white ribbons heavier, smoother, with finer demarcation between the transparent and opaque parts. In terms of the glass, it behaves under UV just like a vaseline based Akro would. I have this example, what I think is a 'brushed' cork that is one a base glass reminiscent of yours....but shines just like it were vaseline. I also have a few grey, tea-like colored Pelts that behave in the same way...not expecting such a pronounced response under UV with them either. This example of the brushed cork is a bit back-lit, and darker than it appears in hand, more like Ann's example above.
  22. I've been watching those dishwater Liberties too. I think the base glass is similar too, and maybe sometimes the same as seen in Red Angels. I wonder if they are from a similar, brief period of production. Many of the Angels I've seen seem to have fragile glass and are heavily damaged, often prone to further damage and expansion to bubble pops...and just speculation here, but maybe this lead to a brief lifespan for this type of glass? They just don't seem to have a durable surface, generally. Only one of the Angels I have is graded in the 9.0s. This Liberty was my Father's.....a collection found at his Mother's house....he was a kid in the early 1930's. I would like to know what others think of these too.
