Just a reminder, there never have been and still are NO LISTING FEES at MibAuctions.com. This has been extended indefinitely. Please take advantage of this great resource. I will be listing a bunch of new auctions in the coming weeks. LISTING TIP: Since there are NO FEES for starting an auction at any price, or have a reserve, protect yourself by using either of these two methods. I have completed over 54 auction sales so far, and prefer to start the auction at the price I would like to get for an item. It has been the most successful method so far. Thanks! Craig MibAuctions

Here are some of my advertising marbles from the 60's. These all came from France and were included in boxes of cleaners or detergents. The large marbles are about 1" and the smaller ones 5/8" to 11/16". I have included an advertisement that shows them. I don't think they all had the name on them, but some did. One of the Bonux marbles has a great oxblood vane. Any other early advertising marbles? Alan has a bunch of Akros on right now. Craig

I interviewed an old Akro Agate employee (he was 95) a few years back that worked at the plant in 1936. He said Akro made a ton of 1" diameter black marbles and shipped them to steel plants where they were used to polish the steel. Craig

Anyone see this auction? It ended early at $1500. Berry Pink Signature A little history on this auction. Myself and Bob Lightner (another long time collector from Kansas City) went to this guys antique store in Lawrence Kansas to look at the letter and marbles maybe 2 years ago. He said (this is where is differs from his auction description) that a guy walked this into his store and sold it to him with the marbles. That's a HUGE red flag in this auction. He said he found it in a drawer of an old dresser in his description. These marbles looked torch made and it looked to me and Bob that someone had maybe found a real letter but attempted to make up the marbles to go with it. We walked away shaking our heads at the marbles but the letter was pretty cool. But $1500 cool? I don't think so. It seems like he wanted $300 for it at the time. Guess we screwed up. LOL... Craig

Fantastic find Brad! Love those trophies! Craig

This is exactly what I was thinking as well. The box you have is just missing the clips? BTW: As far as 'glass balls for every purpose' goes. I interviewed a 95 year old man that worked for Akro in 1936. He told me a large part of there business at that time was making 1" black glass marbles that were shipped to Pennsylvania to the steel mills to polish or clean the equipment with. Craig

WOW! Never seen that one. Looks like a something someone won or sent away for. Do you think it's an Imperial box under the label? I can see part of the address. Maybe it's too deep? It's worth the box just for that cool mailing label! Who calls themselves 'Master'? LOL... Awesome box! Craig

I would back away just a few more inches. Even with a good macro like yours, 4 to 6 inches is best and then crop and resize to the marble. Otherwise the outside edges get fuzzy on you. Look great otherwise. Craig

I bought the Zurdo movie a few years ago. There is a subtitled DVD available to buy, I think I got mine on eBay. It's a GREAT movie with a marble tournament as it's theme. The final climatic scene is between this kid and the champ from another town. Lot's of great marble shooting going on. Craig

I only met Jerry once so I didn't get a chance to know him well, but I heard he passed away a few weeks ago. He was from the St. Louis area. Thought some here might know him and would like to know. Craig

John, I agree completely. It would be nice to know more details on the history of these. The weird thing is, the 'newer' style looks just like the old trade beads that Pinx posted which are very old. Confusing isn''t it? LOL... Craig

Gary, great pictures. I have never seen another 1 1/8" mib that looked like my group of 9. That means there is hope that the special box I had made for them with one extra hole left in it to make it a 10 count box may actually be filled some day! YEAH! Here is a necklace I had at one time. Sold it a few years ago in Amana. John, are the style of those marbles you show newer? I thought it had come up before that this style where it looks like two halves are put together with the milky base were not real old? Not sure, just asking. Craig
-
Ken, not trying to one up you...LOL...it's cool to see the many styles of these. Some on clear glass, some with more color than others. Thanks for the pics. These are tough to come by as you know. Craig
-
Here's a group of mine. All 9 came from Germany in one group. All of them are 1 1/8". Really big for this style marble. As Ken says, they each have there own style. Really cool marbles! Craig

Bruce Breslow at Moon Marble Co. calls the micro marbles he makes 'Wee Wee's'. That's a good one! Craig
-
Wow, what a haul for a couple days! Looks like Amana was good to you this year! Craig

Some pretty rainbos. Pink patch on this one. Some woody style rainbos. Enjoy! Craig

Cees, I actually have a bar of soap in the shape of a little girl with a 3/4" or so Sparkler in her hand. She's standing up and is about 4 inches tall. I will try and get a picture up of it. It's pretty unique. Craig

Steelies: Handmade Or Machine-made? Hand "gathered"?
spara50 replied to Steph's topic in Steph's Study Hall
Yeah me too, but it's much easier to find 32 of those than it would be to find 32 pee wee hollow steelies! I actually thought about changing them out to match the box at first, but the more I thought about, the more unique it was with these marbles. Craig
