It is a city that has one of the very highest unemployment rates in the nation - about 20 per cent.

I don't understand. When a marble changes hands rapidly (like at a show), does that make it a fake ? Yes, I have a 15/16 CAC guinea. It is probably not the only other one that existed or still exists. The same is true for other unusual Christensen mibs. There are lots of wierd ones out there of which we only see very few examples.

Help Needed With Cac's Have A Look
Kokoken replied to BuckEye 's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Simple question, difficult answer. I still get surprised and I had the benefit of tutelage by the late, great Les Jones. He had the best eye I have ever run across for costruction, pattern and colors. Still, I don't think any single person has seen all the variety that Christensen Agate produced. Attending the New Philly show is the best way to start, IMHO. -
I only know about CAC's......... those are very nice !

Above is Pete's picture before he sold the box to me.

My box is at the bank but here's a pic of my extras. They are opaque. The shades of each color vary all over the place. Some have all kinds of character others have no personality at all

Lovers of glass should go to www.kog.com and see what Kokomo's glass plant does the same way they have done since 1888. Back to Kokomo marbles, here are a few lousy pics of some of mine. For better pics, go to the West Virginia club site As well as I can determine, dates of manufacture were from about 1939 until 1942. I spoke to the general manager at that time and he can remember both days, the pick up of the machine from Peltier and it's return, but he can't remember in which years.

Writing from Kokomo here where it is a beautiful, sunny day, finally. Yes, those boxes and bags at WVMCC site are mine. The manufacturer of the mibs. Kokomo Opalescent Glass is still in business today. No need to contact them, though, for marble info. What little they know they got from me. I also gave them a nice assrtment of samples in a wood box. The marble business just didn't work out for them. I think the workers gave more mibs to the kids of Kokomo than were actually sold.

I have a couple of those with the ugly grey stuff in them like the above one and I consider them to be the ultimate snotty - like the result of a sinus infection or a bad case of chest congestion right before it turns to pneumonia.
-
............sure would like one of those pink or green transparent based examples to round out my collection.
-
All of above info is correct. It seems strange that they are so out of favor today. The early collectors ( 50's and 60"s) treasured the sulfides above all other marbles. I think part of the reasoning was that it took a team of 2 people to insert the figure and fold over the glass. To get the figure centered and without bubbles required a lot of skill, for sure.

You may be absolutely correct. Thanks

I am not so sure about the fine streams making the flame pattern. I mean were there 12 different streams that produced a 12 tip flame ? Do you think molten glass could flow thru a really thin nozzle ?

Why do so many onionskins have a core ? Some of these cores are fantastic so I don't believe they made them into onionskins to cover up the core. HELP
-
Refer to his post above. He says it is 1 3/16 inch measured with a Kentucky measuring device.
-
The rest of the bag is fantastic !!! I will let you recover your investment for any of the Joseph's coats. No, I have never seen a gooseberry that large. Romanoak has the largest (gooseberries) that I know of.

The silica sand quarry in Ottawa, Il ( the one Peltier used ) is still very active. I have heard it is the largest one in the USA.

The ones above on the distinctive steel blue base are Kokomos. The orange on grey (blue) is a color I have not seen before - congrats. The others might be from Kokomo but how do you distinquish them from Peltiers ?......... Ken from Kokomo
