I was told that the Czechs made them during the 1920's and 30's. They then hid the machines during the war, then began making mibs again from 1946 until 1950. I don't know if that is true but it is a good story. I do know that during the early 1900's the Czechs were very innovative with glass and they produced a lot of it which was exported around the world but mostly to the good old USA. AGAIN<THESE MIBS ARE UNIQUE !!!

Very, very cool ! Is the one in lower left corner a black based one and the one toward the lower right a dark brown based ? I think this brings the total number pictured in this thread to 34. I THINK this number represents most of the total in collections. I may be all wrong, though. Thanks for sharing.

Craig - Besides being bigger than mine, yours are way busier than mine. If anyone is going to "one up" me, I am glad it's a nice guy like you. Anyone else have pics of these Czech marbles ? I would love to see them.

The fun of the search !! For years I had only 2 of these. Then a couple of years ago I got 2 more. I was stuck on 4 examples for a long time . Then this year a dealer gave me a real deal on the other eight. Talk about unique marbles........... each one has personality. Incidentally, all measure about 3/4 diameter.

They look the same to me. Yes, they are Jennies. All the white is ribbon shaped, isn't it ?

See my post from earlier today in the CAC "Bloodies" thread if you want to read what I think of Red Jennies. I may not be correct but I do have answers.

OK, you guys have inspired me to dig my stuff out. The seven red Jennys that I bought from Grist are identical to the mibs in my "Bloody" box. To my way of thinking, they are not "bloodies" at all because Bloodies have either a completely opaque base or a semi-transparent base ( the latter are more interesting. Red Jennys are a type of slag, I guess. The thing that makes them different is that the white is always ribbon shaped. There are no large patches of white nor are there any fine lines of white as are found on most normal slags. By the way my box has handwritten on it 1 cent each or 6 for 5 cents. Grist says Red Jennys are the rarest of all CA's.

I am hesitant to enter this fray. I saw John's marbles for the first time last week at New Philly. They are beautiful and, yes, they are very similar to CA "exotics". I think he could make them even closer to the real thing if that were his intent. On the other hand, he could easily make them less resemble the "exotics". That would be my choice if I had a choice.

I think this is the $64,000 question in the marble world. I have never been able to figure it out at all. Les Jones once told me that all machine marbles have seams. It's just that often we can't see them and this makes a lot of sense. I mean a gob feeder has to leave some kind of mark, doesn't it. Could it be that the seams get buried inside the mib, or postioned and shaped on the surface, as it is being formed ? I think so.

Obviously, it is the male on top. He is so much brighter.

I recently got this shot of guineas being made. They have been doing it like this for a long time. Hopefully Lou will add the pic soon. It is worth waiting for.

In answer to request, among my guineas that have pretty much complete coverage, 5 out of 44 have just one seam. Among the striped opaques, 5 of 160 have one seam, it seems. My eye is not the best. Les Jones could find seams where I just saw plain old marble. I miss Les.

Because of the huge spots, I think it might bring more than $300............ very nice !!!

Oh, the fun of a show and finding a bargain. I like CA swirls. One vendor had them at $40 each and another had exact same ones at $10 each. I bought ten of them from one of the vendors..... duhhh.

Fried chicken dinner tonite at 5:00 at the Hampton. Dan Grocki with millions of mibs, the Brandstetters with great prices and a rare opporunity to buy quality rarities inclucing about 100 pristine boxes from Art Bowles are just some of the highlights that I saw last night.

I room hopped a bit last nite and was very impressed with the quantity and quality of offerings. Tonite should be bigger and better. Come to the Hampton Inn in Kokomo on US 31 just south of Kokomo.

Mary, no, not many big ones at all. I have seen lots of guineas but I have never seen one a full 3/4 (until now).

David, Nah, you didn't steal. You just borrowed. Ken Brian Estepp says he once saw a very large peach based guinea. Where is it ?

Both the yellow and the orange fluoresce like crazy ! Godzilla is also amazingly round. It is .92 and .93 every way I turn it.

When you tossed them, how did you get so many nines on the "up" side ? Great photography .
