  1. Coloring, condition, size, pattern, They all matter.
  2. Hope You had a good one Al. Happy Birthday.
  3. how in the world that article came up with a date that seems accurate is incredible
  4. MFC made his machines. Of course he was a machinist and foundry owner.
  5. Mark, make it and if we can put it in this pic and no one can tell it doesn't belong there I will paypal you the money
  6. And Suzie you do not have to now deal with someone that paid twice what that marble was worth. Although like many people that can't admit they got taken they will probably leave that seller positive ID and just keep the marble.
  7. If the amount of glass, colored rods(noodles threads strings) layed out are not enough to completely cover the ball of glass on the end of the punty as it is rolled on the rods a clear window results. I would imagine every marble made from that glob after it was made into cane had a clear area. It is not that uncommon.
  8. Hey Steve, you might want to talk to Gino. Seems he never remembers saying (all the types). Heck the thing barely has any slags on it. Peltiers main production for years. And some of us think the production of Citri was probably a little after 1931. I wonder if it is 1931 production marbles
  9. Simple: Real Agates were the most highly prized and valuable marbles at the time.
  10. Ebay has also showed that many types thought to be rare are much more common than originally believed. So many of the book prices are way more than actual value. Which is what a marble is currently selling for
  11. Those bags are from at the earliest the 70s. I would definitely say repackaged. Or maybe they were made later than believed.
  12. An urn with every Pelt ever made? Give me a break. Many of the Pelt marbles are color variations of other types caused by a variety of conditions. And good heavens, one just has to look at The Citris type marbles to tell they are original vintage Peltier machine made marbles.
  13. Looks much more torch than vintage to me. Actually it doesn't look vintage at all to me.
  14. I think one person seems to disagree with the facts the there were citris types dug at the factory site. Why, I do not know. The digger has nothing to do with the so called jar find and does not sell the pelts that were dug. And certainly has absolutely no reason to lie about where they came from. His friend was once part owner of Peltier which allowed him some limited digging adventures. I should add that there are many many peewee type Pelts that very closely resemble the citri. And yes some CAC cullet is used to make marbles. Only an amateur newbie collector would not know they were made in a torch flame. the designs of a Citris would prevent even a slightly similar marble to be made with a torch. Heck I would offer 1000 dollars to anyone that could make one that could not be told apart. Peace,Galen
  15. It would take a massive ammount of machining and high temp ceramic work(to make the nozzles etc) to make the feeding system for the marbles. it also takes multiple furnaces for the different colors. Being these are multiple stream marbles I imagine it would cost upwards to the 100 thousands to put together the setup necessary to make these types. And then there is all that digging and putting the rejects and broken pieces around the Pelt factory. IMO rediculous to think such an attempt was made. Heck no one has even accurately reproduced the valuable type Pelts why would they copy these?? And I believe they were around before the so called jar find. The exotics would be much much easier to fake.
  16. The machine was usually a funnel of some sort, a type of shear mechanism and the rounding auger shaped rollers. These could be moved about and were placed under the furnace and feeders which in some cases could be very complicated. At jabo there really is no feeder system as the glass runs from a hole in the furnace floor directly into the shear mechanism. Mike has some great pictures of the Miller machine. The one that was at Jabo was not all original as there were recently added and removed parts. The Miller machine for manufacturing marbles patent pic is really close to what they looked like.
  17. Since then they sure have come out of the woodwork. It seems that find and making the sets and bringing them to the forfront has led to additional types being included as Citri and the sense that they are much more common than first believed.
  18. I wonder why I see no evidence of smokestacks etc that should be very prominent if there were the large gas fired furnaces necessary for marble production??
  19. I think Peltier purchased a total of 11 Miller Machines. And the machines used at various factories would have been made somewhere besides the marble factories.
  20. Never heard of a big find of citris types or any controversy of any type surrounding them. I have found them in the wild seen folks find them in groups at shows and seen and held some groups that had been in one mans collection for quite some time. I have seen the pieces and held them that were dug at the Peltier site.
  21. Alan still get some crazy prices for the exotics so there is obviously a large group of collectors that believe them to be the real deal. and I have seen some go for real money at recent shows. Although the one that sold for the most 1400 was a Carl Fisher clay ball.(just shows how a fantastic find can blind even a seasoned collector) Although I still believe the dig story to be completely made up by a small group of folks(funny how no one bothered taking any pics of the actual event) I am of the belief that they are(yes, there are some very good fakes) definitely machine made marbles possibly from CAC. A lot of folks can agree to a story for big bucks at any time and any place.
  22. I have heard the term checking but it was for a crackling like texture that forms in a type of pattern
