ann
Radio's were made and used before 1923, in WW1 they used a lot of radio's for military purposes. See: http://earlyradiohis....us/1919bru.htm so it's possible to leaflet is also from an earlier date and they made glass parts for these types of radio's. I believe he was referring to radio stations in 1923, not radios themselves . . . and since the leaflet is undated, there is no way to be certain about its date -- but I would be very surprised, considering its design, if it were produced any earlier than the 1920s. But of course, all things are possible . . .
hdesousa
I asked someone in Lauscha, who is familiar with the leaflet, as to when it was printed and when the "Glasfabrik Wernerhuette" stopped making handmade marbles. He said 1930's for the leaflet and 1950's for handmade marble sales.
clydetul62
The leaflet has a pic of the factory. In the corner says circa 1896. Why would they put a pic thats over 30 years old when advertising current products?

akronmarbles
Hansel...I have your pamphlet dated from 1925 - 1935. I must have a letter somewhere from Miller or Wright which states such or else I wouldn't have dated my file such.

Brian, The 1927 list of marble factories (link in post #24 - http://tinyurl.com/b3rf24t) differs a bit, but not much, from your list. Where did you get the info for your list? akronmarbles
Sears catalog ads show German handmades up till the fall of 1916 - then they reappear again in the fall of 1921 catalog and are present till the spring of 1923 when the dissappear for good. Montgomery Ward & Co shows German handmades in 1925 and 1926. The American Wholesale Corp has German handmades for sale in 1927 including sulphides. Steph
IIRC Galen once posted a catalog page from 1930 or maybe a little later which had handmades in it. I'm trying to remember which search terms to use to find it.
Steph
Here's where I first saw the ad. Some Onyx Marbles For Sale Galen gave the date as 1933. The post originally had a bigger copy of the ad but it was reduced when we were trying to save storage space. Galen, do you still have the large version? I'llhavethat1
Would it be possible that some of the advertisements used 'stock' illustrations and were built to order ie: contact us with your current request and we'll make you something similar to what's shown. Yes it will be round and glass.
manddrakes
Canada, without their own marble making machinery, probably kept importing marbles from Europe after the US had stopped. Amongst other types of German marbles found more commonly in Canada than in the US are large ribbon (and maybe other) lutz. Could be Bulgaria fakes. ackiedee
HI Since antique handmandes are my faves to collect, I am enjoying this in depth history lesson about them. Thanks Di
